In an age where many people dread the inevitable process of getting older, Sharon Stone is a refreshing change, proving that aging isn’t something to be feared after all. At 65 years old, the seasoned actress possesses a wealth of life experience and wisdom, and she absolutely loves sharing her insights with the world even the ones people do not normally dare to say out loud.
Therefore, at the 2014 amFAR Inspiration gala in Hollywood, the then 56-year-old Basic Instinct actress seized the opportunity to inspire other women, on why aging should not be feared, and what benefits come along if they start embracing it at once.
Why Sharon Stone Loves Getting Older?
Sharon Stone‘s unapologetic manner is a hallmark of her personality, and when it comes to talking about aging, she does not hesitate. Working in an industry where people are obsessed to hide even the slightest signs of aging thus was difficult for her. Therefore, at the 2014 amFAR Inspiration gala in Hollywood, she candidly opened up about the positive aspects of embracing one’s true age. She said,
“People keep asking me why I tell people I’m 56 all the time. It’s a bit judgmental, but I think it’s soft to pretend anything.—I love it when people say, “In Hollywood, you’re not allowed to get older.” Really, who gives a sh*t what Hollywood thinks about anything? I’ve been here a long time: I’ve seen ’em come and I’ve seen ’em go”
Sharon Stone also elaborated on how crossing the threshold into one’s 50s doesn’t necessitate losing youthfulness, as age is simply a number in her book. During her candid revelation, the actress also shared one of her observations, that despite not being the same bombshell she was in her 20s, male attention never waned, she said,
“Jesus, every time I go into a Starbucks, some 20-year-old guy throws himself at me! Although it might be because he knows there’s a meal at the end of it. But these young guys know the s-x would be better.”
She further continued saying,
“Of course, at 56, I do experience that men look at me differently, but guess what? That’s a great time-saving device! All those guys who were dogging you ’cause you were the young hot girl: That’s like throwing a pork chop out into a field of wild animals! That’s not saying anything! It’s better and means more if they look at me now.”
According to Stone, dating at her age is surprisingly easier than many people might assume. Contrary to expectations, receiving attention now feels more fulfilling to her than it did 30 years ago during her prime, emphasizing the depth that comes along with mature relationships.
Sharon Stone Survived a Massive Brain Hemorrhage
Certainly, the clarity and wisdom that Sharon Stone now possesses were not acquired overnight. Her journey has been shaped by harrowing experiences that taught her the true value of life and the importance of embracing every aspect of it.
One such life-altering event occurred in 2001 when she suffered a brain hemorrhage, leaving her to relearn everything even walking and talking during a two-year recovery period. The odds of survival were slim as her brain bled for nine days, making her eternally grateful for her life. She shared.
“That’s because in 2001, I had a massive brain hemorrhage. So I know what the alternative to growing older is. I bled in my brain for nine days. I spent two years learning to walk and talk again. I came home from that stroke stuttering, couldn’t read for two years.”
She further continued saying,
“I was in an ICU for nine days and the survival rate for what I went through is very low. I don’t need someone to make me feel bad about growing older. I’ll tell you what makes you feel bad: when you think you might not.”
Despite her recovery, the incident left her with a bunch of valuable lessons, the most important being the significance of loving her life. And this is exactly why she lives her life to the fullest.
