Whilst there appears to be no release date in sight for Shadow of the Erdtree, there is one detail in the teaser image of the upcoming expansion that may prove key to what the DLC may be about.
And whilst Elden Ring is still riding high since it’s release over year ago, it’s the mysterious upcoming DLC which is proving to be a talking point amongst fans.

What are fans saying about Shadow of the Erdtree?
Elden Ring has been seen to make history for developer FromSoftware, as the RPG has been their most successful release to date. And it continues the legacy which was set by the Soulsborne games before it. With many viewing Elden Ring as bringing the genre into the mainstream and setting the bench mark for games who aim to include open-world experiences.
The upcoming DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, has taken far longer to develop than that of it’s predecessors and so far we only have the released teaser image as any sort of indication as to what the expansion will contain. And it’s from this image that several fan theories have started to emerge.
We can see from the image that there is an eerily dark sky and there is a blonde figure riding Torrent towards a withered looking tree, which appears to be the only source of light in the image. It’s a far cry from the Lands Between which are brighter and more colourful, so it could be that the DLC takes place far from the where the base game is set.

Many fans have theorised that the young blonde figure riding Torrent is that of Miquella and that she, along with Godwyn, will play a pivotal role in the events of this expansion. And if we look at the hints found in Castle Sol and the description of various items which could be related to Godwyn’s undead status, there could be breadcrumbs to follow leading to a bigger story in which Miquella tried to call forth an eclipse to give Godwyn a true death.
It appears that this plan was for naught given the apologetic ghost you encounter at the castle and the Prince of Death’s continued cursed status but could the teaser image show that this was actually successful and the darkness comes from the eclipse itself? Time will tell.
Regardless of all the speculation and theories for this upcoming DLC, one thing is for sure, fans are desperate to get their hands on the upcoming expansion;
“Just beat elden ring for the first time. An absolute masterpiece. Can’t wait for the shadow of the erdtree dlc.”
“Quit messing with my emotions and release the trailer for Shadow of the Erdtree!!!”
