Talking to Elle, Gatwa expressed that initially, he was too nervous to engage in conversations on the Barbie set. For a month straight, the actor barely spoke. The star-studded cast may have been one of the reasons behind such a timid disposition. However, Gatwa’s follow-up statement implies that Ryan Gosling may have had a part to play in this.
The Sex Education alum recalled one instance where he was chatting with director Greta Gerwig only to turn around and find Gosling’s ocean-blue eyes staring right into his. To say that Ncuti Gatwa was taken aback would be an understatement. Following is how the incident transpired:
“I was so nervous I hardly spoke for the first month [on set]. There was a time when I was talking to Greta and I turned around and Ryan Gosling was looking at me, and his eyes were so blue that I just… fell over. I just drowned in his eyes.”

After Gatwa was cast in BBC’s Doctor Who, Gosling gushed about his participation. Appearing on The One show, the Crazy, Stupid, Love star revealed how excited he was about the Sex Education alum playing the next Doctor. Following was his statement:
“I am such a big fan of Ncuti’s, he’s the coolest. Him playing Doctor Who is the most exciting thing that’s happening right now. I’m here for it.”
This wasn’t all. When the announcement of him being cast as the fifteenth Doctor had taken place, Ncuti Gatwa was working on Barbie. Gatwa revealed in an interview with Vogue that upon getting a whiff of the news, Gosling came running to the former’s trailer to voice his elation and support in person. “I remember Ryan Gosling bounding up to my trailer like, ‘Doctor Who is the coolest show in the world man! I’m the biggest fan’, and I was like, ‘What the hell?’ This show has incredible reach.”
Besides being an encouraging co-worker, Gosling was also voicing his genuine appreciation as a fan of the acclaimed series. Gatwa, who had been fascinated by The Notebook actor’s eyes while working with him, must have valued his support tremendously.
