The third and final installment of James Gunn’s superhero movie trilogy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was really a special film for the Marvel fans. In this new chapter of Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, our Guardians returned for a final journey.
But many questions have still been left unanswered- especially about the Skrull. Also, it is debatable when and where we will next see Star-Lord, but also for how long he will remain a part of the MCU.
For those who may have forgotten, or have not had a chance to watch the latest Marvel series yet, Skrulls are humanoid reptiles with the ability to shapeshift.
To put it another way, they might be anywhere. However, this Skrull does not seem to care about the typical disguise, as seen when he appears to be hiding in the Secret Invasion director’s mysterious update.
How Is The Skrull Theory Linked to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is also renowned for its wild marketing strategies. That’s why, with the majority of the best MCU characters and Marvel films, the MCU has been generating billions of dollars without any issues for decades.
Surprisingly, Marvel Studios was able to keep a Skrull under wraps for two months until revealing it following the release of Secret Invasion. The ensemble of Secret Invasion, which stars several returning stars from the Marvel Cinematic Universe along with a few well-known newcomers like Olivia Colman and Emilia Clarke, is led by Samuel L. Jackson‘s Nick Fury.
The Secret Invasion story has been brought to life by Marvel, with Nick Fury uncovering an Earthly conspiracy while the Skrulls take over the planet.
The controversy regarding Rhodey’s length of time as a Skrull in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was recently settled by Secret Invasion director, Ali Selim. And this could unlock the mysteries surrounding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, suggesting that Star-Lord can also be a Skrull.
Another great addition to Marvel Studios’ creative marketing campaign for Secret Invasion is the revelation of the hidden Skrull in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 premiere.
Consequently, many fans questioned why Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) did not use his signature gear—the helmet and rocket boots—after witnessing him improvise his space jump. He has, after all, used them to travel through space on several occasions.

How Does The Potential Star-Lord Film Set Up New Series?
James Gunn has discussed a potential Legendary Star-Lord film that could happen in the MCU down the road. He said the following in the digital commentary for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3:
“Chris and I, forever, have talked about how great it would be to be able to do a ‘Legendary Star-Lord’ movie – a story with Star-Lord on Earth trying to adapt to the environment of Earth in the same way that somebody else might try to adapt to the alien environment of outer space. He’s a fish out of water in just kind of regular water. So I can’t wait to see it.”
This seems to confirm that the tease about Star-Lord’s future will lead to a new film. However, since Gunn is now concentrating on the DCU, it is also possible that plans will change to better accommodate some MCU projects that are already in development.
The Legendary Star-Lord’s hinted return in Guardians of the Galaxy may therefore be a part of Marvel Studios’ plans for the ongoing Nova solo project, which was most recently reported to be a Disney+ series.
Not only does the tease reveal Star-Lord’s solo MCU film, but there are not many upcoming MCU projects that would make sense for Peter Quill to appear in right now.
Additionally, Nova has occasionally served as a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy and may eventually take Star-Lord’s place in that role in the MCU. Thus, it would not be shocking if Nova ends up taking Star-Lord’s place as the group’s human leader in the MCU.
Anyway, both Secret Invasion and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are available for streaming on Disney Plus.
