Harrison Ford found worldwide fame by starring in the iconic roles of Indiana Jones and Han Solo in the Indiana Jones and the Star Wars franchise respectively. With his fame came a very unique problem prone only to Ford.
Being known for his animal-loving nature, an ant and a spider species have been named after Harrison Ford. A recent discovery also drew attention to the actor since the species of snake discovered was also named after the veteran actor. Ford, in his kind nature, had a loving reaction to the honor.
Harrison Ford Reacts To A Snake Getting Named After Him
Ford starred as the iconic character of Indiana Jones in the Indiana Jones franchise. Being afraid of snakes, his character was often seen running away from them rather than petting them in the movies.
The story is completely reversed in real life as Ford stated that he loved animals, especially snakes. In an interview, the actor talked about the newest species of snake discovered in Peru’s Andes Mountains and how it was named after the actor. Stating that he felt humbled, Ford talked about how the scientists kept naming critters after him.
“These scientists keep naming critters after me, but it’s always the ones that terrify children. I don’t understand. I spend my free time cross-stitching. I sing lullabies to my basil plants, so they won’t fear the night.”
Talking about snakes, the actor stated that unlike his Indiana Jones character, he actually likes them in real life. Recalling his tales with snakes and describing their vividness, Harrison Ford reminded us that humans are still small compared to the vastness of the universe.
Harrison Ford Loves Snakes Unlike Indiana Jones
The newest species of snake discovered was named Tachymenoides harrisonfordi. In the interview, the Blade Runner actor revealed that he loves snakes and talked about how he and the snakes would have been friends in the 60s!
“The snake’s got eyes you can drown in, and he spends most of the day sunning himself by a pool of dirty water — we probably would’ve been friends in the early ’60s. It’s a reminder that there’s still so much to learn about our wild world – and that humans are one small part of an impossibly vast biosphere,”
Alongside the snake, Harrison Ford also has a spider and an ant named after him, the Calponia harrisonfordi (spider) and Pheidole harrisonfordi (ant) were also named to honor the actor.
