Recalling the time of the shooting, Johansson admitted that the MCU was going for a femme fatale look. She revealed that the costumes represented her character’s growth over the years and it was crucial to the development of the character. There was one costume however, that seemed to be off-limits for Scarlett Johansson.

“In some [ways] I look at it as a costume she was wearing — at the time, Marvel was interested in the character being a shape-shifter. When we were doing Captain America: The Winter Soldier — this is a really funny thing — the look is fantastic and utilitarian. She first drives up in this beautiful car and picks up Cap, and initially in the script, it was like, she arrives in her tennis whites, with a blonde wig. It was very quickly killed,”

The costume was quickly changed to a more appropriate attire that would actually suit the context of the events that occurred. It would have truly been weird if the actress would have showed up in tennis whites with a blonde wig.

The film doesn’t look like anything I’ve ever seen before, it looks so cool! The texture of it is so awesome. And because Josh wrote it, it just feels very… I don’t know, it’s got a very dramatic feeling about it. It’s funny, but it’s got so much heart to it like all of his stuff does.”
