Sandra Bullock has done a variety of films in her career. From Miss Congeniality to Gravity and more, the actress has proven her versatile acting ability in plenty of projects. However, she still hasn’t starred in a particular kind of movie- the superhero one. But there has been no shortage of rumors about this.
Recently, it was rumored that she was starring as Madame Web in Marvel’s Spider-Man films. But she shot down those speculations. However, the Speed actress once revealed that she came quite close to being in one. Now the question is- was it a Marvel or DC film?
Sandra Bullock Came Close To Starring In A Bad Superhero Film
In 2021, during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live, Sandra Bullock talked about a superhero film she refused to do. The actress clarified that the movie wasn’t from Marvel and neither was it from DC. As for why she didn’t do it, the star revealed that her son advised her not to do it. She said:
“I was approached for something that wasn’t Marvel, but my son said not to do it. It was kind of not in the place [my son] felt I should be. He was actually right. I saw it when it came out and I said, ‘That’s unfortunate.’ It came out and everything. He was like six when he asked me not to do it, and I said, ‘Okay.'”
Bullock didn’t name the movie but since she stated the age of her son, this information was enough to make everyone start speculating. Even Kimmel states that the internet will find out. The Bird Box actress then backtracked a little about her son’s age to say “I forget their ages, often, so it could’ve been four, could’ve been seven or eight.” Some think that she was referring to the Power Rangers movie while others think that it was M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass.
However, until and unless Bullock herself clarifies it, there’s no way to know for sure. The actress also stated that neither Marvel nor DC has ever called her for one of their movies. But this statement is technically wrong, as once upon a time, DC wanted her to be their Wonder Woman.
Sandra Bullock Almost Became DC’s Wonder Woman
In 1999, Variety published that screenwriter Jon Cohen had been brought on board to write a Wonder Woman action movie for WB. As per the site, the makers were looking for Sandra Bullock to star as the Amazonian warrior. The outlet wrote:
“Cohen’s signing on to transform the star-spangled siren Wonder Woman into an edgy action film for Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver, who are wooing Sandra Bullock for the job.”
But the movie didn’t end up happening. In a 2009 MTV interview, Bullock was asked about the movie and she clarified that the project has long been dead. However, the actress stated that she wasn’t ever interested in the role, to begin with. Bullock said:
“How many years ago was that? That’s been so dead. I’m not Wonder Woman; I think even Lynda Carter said I was too old… There are other people much better suited to play Wonder Woman than me. I’ll just do it at home, at night, in my little Underoos.”
Warner Bros. did finally make a Wonder Woman film in 2017 with Gal Gadot. It went on to gross $822 million and set a benchmark for female superhero films. It now remains to be seen if Bullock will ever star in a superhero film or not.
Wonder Woman is streaming on HBO Max.
