Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie’s Barbie is making headlines and has been labeled as the most anticipated summer movie. A live-version remake of the popular children’s figure Barbie, its star-studded cast, visuals, designs, and the set has left people regarding it as picture-perfect.
However, the one thing that people have been appreciating is the costume designs. Barbie, the movie, has perfectly captured the brand’s iconic clothing looks, transporting the audience into the world of Barbie. Even Ryan Gosling is to credit for the movie’s peculiar clothing.
Ryan Gosling’s Genius Idea For Barbie
Ryan Gosling is being regarded by the die-hard fans of Barbie as the perfect Ken. His unmatched commitment, spectacular acting, as well as his hilarious humor, has left people wanting more. With the movie set to be released soon, Barbie fans can hardly wait any longer.
Ryan Gosling’s Ken is also gaining attention for his clothing style that accurately captures the Ken-core. In an interview with Vogue, the movie’s costume designer revealed some exciting details. Jacqueline Durran and her team had only eleven weeks to make all the costumes and during this time Ryan Gosling was a big help in dressing up his character.
In the movie’s posters and trailer, one can spot Ken wearing underwear with ‘KEN’ written over it. While fans regarded it as hilarious and appreciated the team’s attention to detail, it was actually Ryan Gosling who came up with this idea. Durran explains how the designers rushed to make it due to time constraints.
“We just rushed to make it.”
Durran also revealed how Ken can be expected to be dressed up in a lot of colorful 80’s sportswear along with disco boilersuits and cowboy looks. The costume designers invested a lot of money in getting retro sportswear for Ken, even having them imported to perfect the Ken look.
Ryan Gosling’s Hilarious Response To His Haters
Ryan Gosling might be a little too old to play Ken. But seeing the trailer everyone can see that the actor has perfectly channeled the Ken-energy, accurately portraying the popular doll. In an interview with GQ, he responded to all those hating him for playing Ken despite being 42 years old.
“If people don’t want to play with my Ken, there are many other Kens to play with.”
Calling it funny that everyone has started caring for Ken now that he is the one playing him, he added,
“And everyone was fine with that, for him to have a job that is nothing. But suddenly, it’s like, ‘No, we’ve cared about Ken this whole time.’ No, you didn’t. You never did. You never cared. Barbie never f**ked with Ken. That’s the point. If you ever really cared about Ken, you would know that nobody cared about Ken. So your hypocrisy is exposed. This is why his story must be told.”
Regarding himself, a representative of the popular children’s figure, Gosling is clearly too invested in nailing down this role. And we couldn’t be more excited about it.
You can catch Barbie in cinemas on July 21st.
