Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie Might Not Return in a Barbie Sequel

It is not unusual for studios to announce a sequel or a follow-up project to a hit movie or series. However, that does not seem to be the case for the 2023 film Barbie. Starring Margot Robbie in the title character Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, the movie has almost crossed the mark of $1 billion at the box office.

However, neither the filmmaker nor the studio has said anything in favor of a sequel. A new report from The Hollywood Reporter suggests that the reason behind this could be the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes. It is claimed that the “talent” who made the movie a success does not have any deals for a sequel.

The report claims that Robbie, who played the lead character in the movie has no contract to return as Barbie as there is no obligation for her to reprise the character. The Suicide Squad actress could reportedly continue being associated with the possible sequel as a producer, only if she wants to. The same goes for Ryan Gosling and the movie’s director Greta Gerwig.

Why Ryan Gosling Might Not Reprise His Character as Ken?

Along with Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling does not have a deal to reprise his Barbie role in a sequel. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that he and Greta Gerwig do not have any such deals with the studio. Sources have claimed that the filmmaker’s agents handled the situation pretty well after the studio made an offer regarding “a sequel in a directing capacity.”

However, her representatives kept it on hold until the release of the movie. As for The Grey Man star, he does not have many sequels in his resume. The actor is known for avoiding starring in franchises despite having a huge fan demand to see him in popular franchises like the MCU.

He has been connected with several roles in the superhero film series, including Doctor Strange and Ghost Rider. Not just the MCU, he has also reportedly turned down offers for DC films. The Oscar-nominated actor was also rumored to be associated with Ghostbusters.
