Ryan Gosling Wants The World to Hear Ken's Story in Barbie

Barbie has taken the Internet by storm and is heading for a commanding start at the global box office, thanks to the enormous hype that has surrounded the film for months now. Although Margot Robbie’s Barbie is set to take center stage in the $145M film, Ryan Gosling hasn’t failed to bring substantial traction to the movie and the character of Ken.

Unlike Robbie’s character, Ken hasn’t been the most prominent part of the Barbie mythos, and Gosling is now ready to change that, adding another character fans can resonate with to his resume

Ryan Gosling’s reasoning behind taking the role of Ken

Known for playing relatable leads in movies, who are insignificant in the grand scheme of things, which helps the fans resonate with his characters, it appears Ken is set to get the same treatment in Barbie. Throughout the film’s promotion, Ryan Gosling hasn’t failed to bring traction to the character while making sarcastic remarks with his monotonous expressions. But the Blade Runner star also touched on the subject of why this role fascinated him, as he could relate to the character, claiming that he was born to play this role. Gosling said,

“There’s always been a Ken inside of me. It’s the role I was born to play. I’ve had this Kenergy – if you will – and the Kenergy is alive in me now. I feel a Ken in you. You don’t think so? You’ll see. Wait till the film comes out. You’ll see. You’ll feel seen.”

Although it’s evident that the Drive Star is having fun promoting this movie, the early reviews for the film do reflect that it might be yet another banger in Gosling’s illustrious filmography.
