Emma Stone Was Almost Undone By Her Fear Of Heights

Crazy, Stupid, Love, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling showcased both actors’ chemistry together in a charming romantic comedy. The film also had a blast from the past in which The Amazing Spider-Man star and The Notebook actor paid homage to one of Hollywood’s cult romances, Dirty Dancing. Gosling and Stone humorously recreated the famous lift scene between Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in which Grey runs towards Swayze for him to lift her high up during their final dance.

Emma Stone, who is petrified of heights, was taken aback by the introduction of this scene as she had no prior clue about it. It was, in fact, Ryan Gosling’s sudden decision to incorporate the cult dance move into the script as he was a student of ballet in his younger days. This posed a huge challenge for Stone, which led to the Oscar winner having a meltdown on set. In her her co-star’s words, Stone looked like, “a possum falling out of a tree and trying to scratch your eyes out.”

The actor failed to get over her fear which then resulted in the director using a body double to complete the scene, thereby explaining the wide-cut angle during the shot as the lift was being completed.

Emma Stone Is Back With Poor Things

It has been a while since we saw Emma Stone on the big screen. Her last outing was in the 2021 origin story Cruella. The actor is now back from her hiatus to take on an interesting and daring role in director Yorgos Lanthimos’ spin on Frankenstein, Poor Things. The film is a story of love, discovery, and scientific daring set in the Victorian era, based on an adaptation of Alasdair Grey’s novel of the same name. Stone plays Belle Baxter, a Frankenstein-like woman who is brought back to life after her brain is replaced with that of her unborn child. Speaking of the film and the choice to work with Lanthimos, Stone said,

There’s no world where I would have done this project with anybody else. I think you could probably feel it when you watch the film that I trust Yorgos implicitly”
