Playing the same character for a prolonged duration can be pretty exhausting for an actor despite their love for the character they’re playing, and Rupert Grint’s case isn’t far from this case. Rising to success even before hitting puberty, following his commitment to Harry Potter, playing Ron Weasley was everything he knew as he grew up while filming sequels after sequels to Harry Potter.
But after his stint as the character eventually ended after 8 films, the actor found himself in the middle of questioning what will be his future endeavors and had a brief thought of changing his profession.
Rupert Grint considered switching professions after Harry Potter‘s end
After witnessing his acting career peak at such a young age, the ending of the Harry Potter franchise marked a new chapter in Rupert Grint‘s life. And to celebrate his last outing as the character, the actor decided to use his fortune to buy an Ice Cream truck and served Ice cream to the rest of the crew members, making the last day of filming memorable.
But for a brief amount of time, the actor did consider switching professions and becoming an Ice Cream salesman, thus giving up acting altogether. Fortunately, this wasn’t the case, as after a brief hiatus, the actor returned to mark the start of a new chapter in his career, inching towards more serious and edgy roles. NYT wrote,
“He bought a pink and white ice cream van, which he drove back to his family home just north of London on his last day of shooting. He thought briefly that he could make a go of that, But after taking a year off, he tried acting again. He had been sent a lot of Potter adjacent material — more sidekicks — but he held on for edgier, more serious, more adult work.”
Although the actor’s idea of switching professions was short-lived, buying an Ice Cream truck remains a special memory for the actor, as it was his first vehicle.
Driving an Ice Cream was a dream come true for Rupert Grint
Reflecting on the matter of famously driving the Ice Cream truck during his Harry Potter days, Rupert Grint revealed it was his first vehicle, explaining he learned to drive in this Ice Cream truck. It was a dream come true for the actor, as it was his childhood ambition, but it had its setbacks, as driving an ice cream truck with no cream in it was weird for the actor.
“It was my first car I learned to drive in, an ice cream truck. I always wanted one. It was my, kind of, my dream car, and it’s great. The only problem: It only has one seat.” Grint said. “There’s just something weird about driving an ice cream van with no ice cream in it.”
Despite his initial doubts about making a jump into his adult film career, things worked out greatly for the actor, as he went on to star in projects, including M. Night Shyamalan’s Servant and Knock at the Cabin.
The Harry Potter movies are available to stream on Max.
