RUMOR: Star Wars Eclipse Development “Going Very, Very Well”: 2026 Release Window Revealed

Star Wars Eclipse, the upcoming video game from acclaimed developer Quantic Dream, is said to be released in 2026, according to sources close to Insider Gaming. Previously, there had been rumors that the game may not see launch day until 2027 or 2028. The story has seen many differing reports, as initial reports indicated that there were significant development issues plaguing the acclaimed Detroit: Become Human studio. Recently, however, Quantic Dream co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumière said that development is “going very, very well” in an attempt to squash rumors of employee mistreatment and poorly advancing development.

This comes as a result of a new video posted to the French news network BFM TV. The video consists of behind-the-scenes information about the highly anticipated Star Wars Eclipse, although there is no new gameplay or major story news to behold. It mostly focuses on technical information, such as motion capture and an intriguing demo of the tech used to scan real-life actors’ faces into the game.

Will Star Wars Eclipse Release Soon?

Reports of development progress on Star Wars Eclipse have varied, but Quantic Dream claims it is going smoothly.
Reports of development progress on Star Wars Eclipse have varied, but Quantic Dream claims it is going smoothly.

Given the recent tsunami of information about the game, it is difficult to know what to believe at this current stage. However, at least according to the CEO, development on Star Wars Eclipse is still going well, so a 2026 release window is not too difficult to believe.

According to InsideGaming, the source informing them of a 2026 target for Star Wars Eclipse is the same source that told them the studio would be acquired by the rapidly growing Chinese tech juggernaut, NetEase. This information was given to them six months before the acquisition was made official. As such, it could be a trustworthy source, though given it has not been officially confirmed, this information should still be taken with a grain of salt.

When does Star Wars Eclipse release!?

In 2018, many reports began to surface that the developers behind Star Wars Eclipse were a nasty bunch, mistreating employees and that one of the founders of the studio, David Cage, had spewed a litany of homophobic and misogynistic remarks. This led to there being a lot of talk online amongst Star Wars fans about potentially boycotting the game, and potentially future games the studio may produce as well.

David Cage flat-out denied these claims, saying “I have never said or even thought such things. I fully understand people were shocked by seeing those words, and I am deeply sorry for the pain and confusion they have caused to women and the LGBTQIA+ community. The quotes are abhorrent, and they do not reflect my views, nor the views of anyone at Quantic Dream.”

Additionally, LGBTQ+ representatives from Quantic Dream issued their own statement stating that “The recent allegations we’ve seen circulating on the Internet are deeply hurtful. They do not reflect our everyday lives at work. We hope to leave behind any misleading perception of our team and our studio as we move forward”.

The news will likely continue to flow in about Star Wars Eclipse as time goes on. If the 2026 release window turns out to be accurate, then it is entirely possible we may see new gameplay and hear more about the story sometime next year. Quantic Dream is known for its heavily story-focused games, including hits such as Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human. Though Quantic Dream has primarily developed PlayStation exclusives in the past, no platforms have yet been officially announced for Eclipse.
