Roccat Pyro Keyboard Review – A Kickass Keyboard That Is Almost Flawless

The Roccat Pyro keyboard is a sleek peripheral that looks great in any setup and includes a number of pretty impressive features. The mechanical gaming keyboard features linear mechanical switches, AIMO RGB lighting, and a detachable palm rest. It is a solid choice for anyone looking for a keyboard with responsive keystrokes, customizable lighting, and a comfortable design.

Upon first glance, it is clear that this keyboard has been designed with flashiness in mind. The Pyro is equipped with RGB lighting that can be customized using hundreds of different color combinations and effects. The lighting in the keyboard can also be synchronized with other AIMO-enabled devices using Roccat’s Swarm software, which can likewise be used to customize macros, and other keyboard settings. The Swarm software is also fairly straightforward to set up and use.

One of the standout features of the Roccat Pyro keyboard is its mechanical switches. The keyboard utilizes Roccat’s own Titan Optical Switches, which are touted as being extremely fast and responsive. After using the keyboard for a week, I can attest to this claim. The keys on this thing feel incredibly responsive and provide fairly satisfying feedback with each keystroke feeling tactile.

The Pyro’s linear mechanical switches are rated for 50 million keystrokes and have an actuation distance of 2.0mm. This means that the keys register a keystroke very quickly, which is ideal for gaming situations. The switches also have a soft coating that covers the hard plastic beneath, making them feel comfortable to type on for long periods of time. When writing, I found my typing speed slowly increasing as I got more comfortable with how the keys felt upon continuous usage. The Pyro also features a detachable palm rest that provides additional comfort when typing or gaming.

In terms of build quality, the Roccat Pyro keyboard feels solidly built and well-constructed. The peripheral is made from a combination of plastic and metal, giving it a tactile, sturdy feel. It features a low profile design, allowing for a more comfortable typing experience during extended work sessions. The low profile design means that the keys are slightly recessed, which helps to prevent accidental keystrokes. The keyboard is also spill-resistant, which is a nice touch.

Though, there are a few downsides of the Pyro’s construction. The first of which, is a lack of dedicated media keys. While there are function keys that can be used to control media playback, it would have been nice to have dedicated keys for this purpose. However, the more pressing concern is the lack of a detachable braided cable. At this price point, a braided cable that can be unplugged from the keyboard should have really been included. Instead, we get a standard plastic, fixed cable, which does feel pretty cheap in comparison to the rest of the quality seen in the Pyro’s build.

In summary, the Roccat Pyro keyboard is an excellent peripheral. Its responsive mechanical switches, customizable lighting, and solid overall build quality make it a great option for anyone looking for a sleek gaming keyboard. While it may be a bit pricier than some of its competitors, the Roccat Pyro keyboard does look like a pretty premium product when sitting on a desk, as long as you can ignore the glossy, cheap-looking cable coming out of the back end of it.
