Gwyneth Paltrow popularly known for her role as Pepper Potts in the Iron Man series had founded Goop, a wellness and lifestyle brand all the way back in September 2008. However, Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop has been in the headlines, as a store in the UK suffered a huge loss of £1.4 million, and it has been shut down.
However, several people believe that the only store in the UK has been shut down for good as the brand has introduced several eyebrow-raising products which the people have found to be ‘strange’ and ‘unusual’ as well as experts have criticized the brand for being misguiding, unnecessary, and selling harmful products.
What Led to the Brand’s Departure from The UK?
According to Mirror, the store in the UK has been shut down for good, as Gwyneth Paltrow opened a number of Goop stores in the high streets but the Notting Hill store never opened and the stores closed during the pandemic only to be shut down forever. It is believed that £1.3 million worth of assets have been stolen and the brand owed £2.7 million in debt which resulted in the shutdown of the store. And Gwyneth Paltrow has signed the paperwork of Goop Inc. Ltd, the company that dealt with cash in the UK branch, to be dissolved and removed from the company’s books.
People rejoice with this decision as the brand was selling bizarre items which included scented candles, called This Smells Like My V*gina, and This Smells Like My Org*sm. The bizarre brand also sold Rose and Quartz Eggs which the brand claimed could regulate the menstrual cycle if worn regularly by women. However, this was a false claim and the brand was sued for £112,000 by California’s consumer protection office.
