After the major success of her 2004 movie The Notebook, she was at the pinnacle of her career, and that’s when she decided to take a career break from acting. In an interview with Bustle this year, she admitted she regretted making some of the shoddy career decisions during her two-year break from showbiz.

The outlet noted that during her time away from Hollywood, The Vow movie star turned down major films like Robert Downey Jr-led Iron Man, Daniel Craig-led Casino Royale, and Tom Cruise-led Mission: Impossible III. Rachel McAdams claimed that she needed a break to keep herself sane and to learn to navigate the overnight success she achieved early in her career. The actress noted that there were moments she felt anxious when she shut down these major movies while on her break, questioning if she made the right career decision by “throwing it all away.”

During her candid conversation with the outlet, Rachel McAdams opens up about the different aspects of her life. The actress reflected on all the career opportunities she missed during her break from Hollywood when she returned to Canada to spend time with her family, expressing, 

“I felt guilty for not capitalizing on the opportunity that I was being given because I knew I was in such a lucky spot. But I also knew it wasn’t quite jiving with my personality and what I needed to stay sane.”

She continued,

“There were definitely some anxious moments of wondering if I was just throwing it all away and why was I doing that. It’s taken years to understand what I intuitively was doing.”

While she turned down some of the major projects that could have paved the way for her to build a solid career, at the time, Rachel McAdams felt it was the right decision she made to take a break from Hollywood. Nevertheless, she is super talented and has starred in iconic movies like The Vow, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, Mean Girls, and About Time.
