Marisa Tomei Revealed That Robert Downey Jr. Recommended Her To The MCU
Marisa Tomei has established herself as a versatile and immensely talented performer. With her radiant smile and captivating presence, the Oscar winner has won the hearts of audiences and critics alike. The Wrestler star didn’t stop there and her subsequent entry in MCU as Aunt May surely added stars to her career. In the Bedroom, the star shared that she was happy with the fact that she was unaware of Aunt May’s character. Tomei stated that she was not happy to get cast as an old character as it may have adverse effects on the casting of aged people. But it seemed like the reboot of Spider-Man to his teenage convinced Tomei to play the role.
“It’s lucky I didn’t know much about Aunt May because I might have been horrified if I’d seen the original image of a gray-haired pensioner. Don’t toy with my heart, Marvel. Is that really how you view me? They aged Peter Parker down too. He’s 15 in this movie. I ended up picking the brains of my brother Adam, who’s been an encyclopedia of Marvel since we were little, and he explained that May’s not related to Peter by blood – she’s his aunt by marriage to his uncle Ben. So she could be elderly or pretty young, depending on what age she met her husband.”
The My Cousin Vinny star revealed that her casting in her debut Marvel film, Captain America: Civil War, was recommended by Robert Downey Jr. Tomei added that the little flirtatious scene in the movie between her character and RDJ’s Tony Stark made her comfortable.
“He recommended me for the role and we had a flirtatious little scene together in Captain America: Civil War [which introduced Tomei and Holland’s characters last year]. Having a familiar face around certainly made me more comfortable.”
