Reportedly, when the film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was under production, the creator had a list of actors to play the lead role. The list comprised prominent names like Jim Carrey, Cary Elwes, and Christopher Walken. They finally decided to cast Robert De Niro, however, he turned down the role as he thought it would not make any money.
Robert De Niro’s role in Henry Cavill’s Stardust
Henry Cavill’s movie Stardust was a fantasy adventure and was directed by Matthew Vaughn. It was written by Vaughn and Jane Goldman, and based on Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess’s 1999 novel of the same name. In the movie, The Godfather 2-star Robert De Niro played the role of Captain Shakespeare, a pirate, who was the captain of the sky vessel in Caspartine.
Reportedly, De Niro took up the role because he regretted refusing to work in Johnny Depp’s superhit franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean. The film grossed $137 million against a budget of $70–88.5 million and was critically acclaimed. The film also received Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation. Henry Cavill played the role of Humphrey in the film, who was an antagonist.
