Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40K which is considered one of the most popular tabletop games is set to launch the 10th edition. The miniature wargame has been around for quite some time now and had launched previous editions which gained enormous popularity over the years.
The wargame is set in a distant dystopian future filled with aliens and other invading creatures. The new edition of the game is bringing some new designs and characters to the table. Interestingly, with the 10th edition, players could simply play one Combat Patrol box against another. Further, it has been in the news that Henry Cavill is all geared to appear in the cinematic adaptation of the game.
Warhammer 40K’s Stu Black on Henry Cavill’s Cinematic Universe
Amazon and Henry Cavill are set to make a 40K cinematic universe based on the popular game franchise. Reflecting on the cinematic adaptation, Warhammer 40K’s manager Stu Black said that their intention will not deviate from making the best version of the game.
“Media and licensing is very exciting but the focus of the team here in the Studio is on how we can make the best version of Warhammer 40,000,” Black told Polygon. Black has been around for more than 10 years in the studio seeing the growth and popularity of the game. In his exciting journey, he fell in love with the game and the task of the development process. “It has become an ever more exciting and humbling task over my 10 years or so in the Studio, as more and more hobbyists fall in love with 40K,” Black added.
“The responsibility to do it well feels greater every time, but that’s our focus every day: making it better and more fun for our fellow Warhammer fans. I am sure that whatever the future holds, that mission will be the same in another 10 years’ time.”
The 10th edition of the marquee miniatures wargame, Warhammer 40,000: Leviathan will be open up for pre-order soon.
Henry Cavill’s Warhammer 40K Cinematic Universe
Cavill has explicitly expressed his fondness for the game. Initial reports stated that The Man of Steel actor is set to star and serve as executive producer of Amazon’s TV adaptation of the sci-fi fantasy lore of the game. However, there’s more, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Games Workshop has announced that the deal extends to a cinematic universe including film, TV, and more.
“I have loved Warhammer since I was a boy, making this moment truly special for me. The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honour and the responsibility,” Cavill said in a statement.
Earlier, Cavill announced the deal on Instagram expressing his keen desire to see the live-action version of the game. “For 30 years I have dreamt of seeing a Warhammer universe in live action,” he wrote.
“Now, after 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel that I have the skill set and experience to guide a Warhammer Cinematic Universe into life. Partnering with Natalie Viscuso at Vertigo has been a blessing beyond words, without her we might not have found the perfect home at Amazon. And having a home like Amazon will give us the freedom to be true to the massive scope of Warhammer.”
It seems Cavill’s new gameplan to not rest in the industry is supersolid after his departure from Netflix’s The Witcher as Geralt of Rivia. Also, it seems he is moving on from Superman as DC announced that they are looking for a new Superman.
