Charlie Hunnam Wanted To Fight Henry Cavill

However, Charlie Hunnam found the pressure overwhelming and reached a breaking point during the auditions.

“I said: ‘You know what? F***ing stop the camera.” He continued, “I’m starting to lose my temper. I know those other pricks you’ve got reading for this role [Henry Cavill and Michael Fassbender]. If you bring them in right now, I’ll f***ing fight them both at once for the role, and we’ll see what’s up with the physicality.”

Naturally, Hunnam was cast as the reimagined Arthur, a character akin to how Richie had previously reinvented Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr.

“[It was] a childhood dream to play King Arthur. We wanted to make an ignoble Arthur, at least at first. We wanted him to feel contemporary, selfish, somewhat rough around the edges.”

The actor also delved into the fantasy realm envisioned by Richie for this fresh retelling of the legendary tale.

“[Ritchie’s] created a very rich, exciting world. I describe it to my friends as Lord Of The Rings meets Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels. [It’s] an unlikely marriage of two things, but it works.”

Charlie Hunnam’s portrayal of the legendary leader showcases a unique combination of charisma, unwavering determination, and his signature rugged charm. His take on the classic role adds a fresh and dynamic perspective, breathing new life into the character.

Charlie Hunnam Stopped Riding After This Role

Charlie Hunnam, the charismatic actor who breathed life into the character of Jax Teller in the immensely popular TV show Sons of Anarchy, shares an unexpected revelation. Once Sons of Anarchy concluded, so did Hunnam’s motorcycle adventures. He openly admitted this during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

“I rode like I was a Hells Angels, I took a lot of risks and got away with a lot. As soon as we finished the show, it was like the spell was broken. All of a sudden, I started to worry about being on a bike. You need to ride with confidence, you know? You think about what could go wrong; there is a likelihood that something might go wrong. I haven’t been on a bike in maybe three years.”

This apprehension eventually compelled him to relinquish the motorcycle he once proudly rode. The bike, once an iconic symbol from the show, now remains dormant, having been pilfered. Nevertheless, Hunnam’s affinity for the biker culture endures, underscoring the enduring influence of his character on both his personal life and the admiration of his fans.

King Arthur can be rented or purchased on Google Play.
