A brand-new update for Cyberpunk 2077 is coming from CD Projekt Red called Phantom Liberty, which is set to release at the end of September. Many Cyberpunk 2077 fans are excited for new content to play with as they explore more of Night City and battle it out with the police. Gamers will be able to complete new quests and unlock new items for their characters, but unfortunately this is the last expansion they will receive.

Why Will This Be the Final Update for Cyberpunk 2077?
Many players will be sad to hear this news, as Cyberpunk 2077 has been gaining popularity amongst gamers lately. The worst bugs have been patched and issues with certain aspects of the game have been removed altogether. However, after Phantom Liberty is released, there will be no more major content releasing to the game, due to some unfortunately simple reasons.
The reasoning behind no future updates is due to the fact that CD Projekt Red is now moving onto a whole new graphics system. In fact, the current REDengine being used to run Cyberpunk 2077 is considered outdated. This is compared to the new engine the company will be using, Unreal Engine 5, which is developed by Epic Developers.
With this change in technology, it wouldn’t make sense to keep updating Cyberpunk 2077 and holding onto the older engine. This would cause players and developers to suffer by having to work with such outdated equipment. It has caused those at CD Projekt Red to make the hard decision to stop creating major updates for Cyberpunk 2077 after Phantom Liberty. However, thankfully this doesn’t mean the game will no longer get patches or bug fixes in the future.

Will This Impact Any Future Sequels to Cyberpunk 2077?
At the moment, there are no immediate plans for a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, however there have been talks of it in the future. Phantom Liberty could bring the game more into the spotlight and help CD Projekt Red feel as though they would like to carry on development of the Cyberpunk IP, beyond just a sequel. But for now, fans will have to enjoy the planned end of Cyberpunk 2077 with Phantom Liberty.
If a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled for the future, it will be developed using Unreal Engine 5, and will have a much larger and more dynamic world within it. And hopefully it will have a lot fewer bugs at the beginning of its release. For now, players are pretty happy with the state of Cyberpunk 2077 and are excited about the upcoming update. They will cherish this content until either a new game is released, or something changes with the technology at CD Projekt Red.
