Since its release a week ago, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is making waves not just at the box office, but also with fans and Marvel buffs across the world. The stunning art and graphic design elements coupled with a powerful ensemble narrative have made many viewers stick their neck out by calling it one of the best ever Spider-Man films to date.
The animated feature with the young Miles Morales voiced by Shameik Moore, is also getting big praise for brilliantly incorporating various versions of Spider-Man from different multiverses and dimensions including Miguel O’ Hara, Pavitr Prabhakar and Spider-Man’s rockstar avatar, Hobie Brown aka Spider-Punk who is now being hailed as the best version of the superhero in the film.
Spider-Punk Is A Fan Favorite
Hobie Brown aka Spider-Punk is one of the many alternate versions of Marvel’s celebrated superhero Spider-Man as seen in the comic books. A free-spirited punk rockstar who is never afraid to speak his mind, the character is known for his animosity towards the establishment. In the film, the character voiced by 2-time Oscar nominee Daniel Kaluuya, has received widespread praise from fans on Twitter who have also stated that he could be Miles Morales’ only ally leading up to the anticipated 3rd part of the Spider-Verse series.
With Miles Morales having to overcome many challenges from within his Spider-Man community, it remains to be seen if Spider-Punk will justify his stature with fans as a Morales loyalist in the next film.
Who Is Spider-Punk In The Spider-Man Multiverse?
Hobie Brown aka Spider-Punk was a homeless teenager who, when bitten by a radioactive spider, becomes the grittier punk rock variant of Spider-Man. The superhero uses his new powers to rally around and lend support to the lower classes in order to bring down the regime led by Head Of Oscorp Industries Norman Osborn. Spider-Punk’s hatred for for the powerful science magnate stemmed from the fact that he got his powers when he was bitten by a radioactive spider irradiated by illegal waste dumping caused by Osborn’s corporation.
Spider- Punk is seen as one of the more violent and rebellious forms of Spider-Man. In one version of the comics, his streak of fury was evident in the way that he managed to fight and defeat Osborn, ultimately killing him by bashing him in the head with his electric guitar. After President Osborn’s death, Spider-Punk unmasked himself to the crowd to reveal his true identity and thereby became their savior.
