He has also been nominated for multiple Acadamy Awards and won two in the category of Best Original Screenplay for his films Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained
Being responsible for so many massive projects, it is only natural that his opinion and insight on projects are very well-respected in the film industry. Eddie Murphy’s Attachment To The Beverly Hills Cop Franchise
Eddie Murphy’s Beverly Hills Cop franchise is perhaps the work he is most well known for, as said by the actor who mentioned that despite all of the movies he has been in, his work as Axel Foley is the one that he is most recognized for. The franchise consists of three movies as of this date, with the fourth one releasing soon. All of the films were released within the space of ten years, with the first film released in 1984 and the third film coming out in 1994.
“That movie has to be right,” he once said in an interview. “The third Beverly Hills Cop was garbage. Those movies, when I travel overseas, people say [in a foreign accent] ‘Hey, Beverly Hills Cop! Axel Foley!’ They call me that s***. All the movies I’ve done, and they call me that. If we do that movie, it has to be right.”
A fact that is well-known amongst the fans of this franchise, as well as Murphy himself, is that Beverly Hills Cop 3 was perhaps the worst film in the franchise. The Coming to America actor did not was to end one of his most impactful projects on such a note, and so for a long time, Murphy has been looking for a good enough script to bring back this character.
