GTA 6 is one of the most highly anticipated games of all time and with that hype comes a lot of expectation on those working on the title. Despite it being a decade since the release of GTA V and Rockstar producing ground-breaking projects such as Red Dead Redemption 2 in that time, the plan according to Zelnick is for GTA 6 to be even more ambitious.
Gangster’s Paradise: Will GTA 6 Be The Perfect Game?
In the interview, he described the team’s goal for the game as an “unattainable level of excellence,” which would be key in bringing GTA 6 and the franchise as a whole to the next level. However, this pursuit of perfection has not been an easy one.
Zelnick used the Civilization series as an example of how ever-changing fan expectations can affect each new game released. The reaction to changes in Civilisation IV by fans is similar to the resistance that Rockstar Games has run into during development, according to Zelnick:
“The objective is to present something novel while maintaining the familiar Grand Theft Auto vibe…Rockstar’s strategy is to relentlessly pursue perfection.”
The duality of wanting to impress fans with something different while maintaining the classic feel of GTA is a tough balancing act. if Rockstar can pull off their “perfect game”, GTA 6 will easily break all the records set by its predecessor.

Although details about GTA 6 are incredibly scarce, Zelnick provided a hint at when the game could see a release in a recent earnings report. This document coupled with several rumours and leaks means that GTA 6 could have a potential launch year of 2024. Rumours have also indicated a potential release date announcement taking place around GTA V’s 10th anniversary in September.
The only concrete proof we have of GTA 6 being well into development is the leaked footage from late 2022 that even in its early stages, looked to tout some impressive features. However, only time will tell if the excitement surrounding one of the biggest games of all time will meet fan expectations.
