James Gunn showed an absolutely new side of John Cena’s acting capabilities with his Peacemaker series. The series following The Suicide Squad was critically acclaimed by both critics and audiences. But it has been long since we got the series and the whole DC regime went through several changes after that. Now new reports state that the second season of the series is not very far.
The DC movies faced a horde of changes after a series of failures and bad decisions. After James Gunn and Peter Safran finally stepped in as the CEOs of the new DCU, there’s uncertainty among the fans regarding several projects. But fortunately, John Cena’s series is in good hands as it continues to receive hopeful updates.
Peacemaker Season 2 receive positive updates
When James Gunn entered the world of DC following a successful run in the MCU, he was an instant favorite. He was successful to garner appreciation for his take on the Suicide Squad team after the disastrous 2016 version. After that, the John Cena spin-off also proved to be an amazing addition from the filmmaker.
Now that he is the co-head of the DCU, it certainly came with greater responsibilities. Although James Gunn announced earlier many times that Peacemaker Season 2 is in the plans of his new DCU, it received more promising updates in a recent podcast. While talking to Michael Rosenbaum in his podcast, the director opened up that the project is next in his line after Superman: Legacy.
“Peacemaker’s coming back right after I do Superman. That’s my next thing. I’ll go straight into Peacemaker from Superman.”
Superman: Legacy is currently in its casting stage with its script fully completed. James Gunn is also set to direct the upcoming movie on the Last Son of Krypton. Certainly, the John Cena starrer is still quite far away even after the positive news. With Superman: Legacy set for July 11, 2025, the Max series will most likely eye for a 2026 release. But it is also to be noted that we might also receive something before Peacemaker Season 2 as another series also exists in the story.
The John Cena series can be preceded by a spin-off
During the announcement of the partial slate of the new DCU, James Gunn also spoke about Waller, a show set around Viola Davis’ character. The show centering around Amanda Waller is set to be a spin-off to John Cena’s show.
Despite the Waller series not being written by Gunn, he announced it as an important bridge between the two seasons of Peacemaker.
“Viola Davis is coming back as her character, Amanda Waller. This is also going to have some of the ‘Peacemaker ‘team in it as regulars on the show. This basically follows up ‘Peacemaker’.”
According to him, a lot of cast from the John Cena series is set to feature in the show and who knows we might also spot the Fast X star in a special cameo. With the creators of Watchmen and Doom Patrol associated with the project, the fans will be excited to watch how it sets up the second season of Peacemaker.
Peacemaker can be streamed on Max.
