Throughout the interview between Owen Good and Emil Pagliarulo, there were numerous topics that were touched upon. Still, one of the topics that was focused on the most was the fact that there will be religion-based narratives in Starfield, and a lot of work has been put into these stories. The Starfield team has worked tirelessly to create these plot lines and to make them a part of the overall universe players will explore.

Emil has already stated that all religions that are around during modern times will still be a part of the universe, but they won’t be touched upon as much as the two new religions that have been created for Starfield. The first religion is named Sanctum Universum, and their core beliefs are that they believe there is a god and that because of God’s existence, humans were able to travel to the stars to try and get closer to God through the format of space travel.

The second religion that has been created solely for Starfield is named The Enlightened, which has been described as more of an atheist belief towards a God existing and believes that it is just a part of Human progress that Humans are now traveling the stars. Due to these two different religions there will be a significant discussion point between players and the characters in the game as to what players choose to believe in and how they will let it impact their version of the story.

How Will These New Religions Affect the Overall Story of Starfield?

As players progress through Starfield, there will be numerous points throughout the story that will catch their attention and make them wonder why they are doing what they are doing. This has been done on purpose, as the designers decided they wanted players to find a reason to explore the universe. Those who follow the Sanctum Universum belief system then will have to ask themselves why are they travelling through the stars and where it will end?

This will open up a variety of options for players as they will be able to explore their beliefs as they adventure through a vast universe and meet characters who may or may not have the same religion in common. As players continue to traverse the galaxy these narratives will help expand the player’s thoughts on the universe and whether or not the Sanctum Universum or The Enlightened have a belief they want to choose.

What do you think about these new religions that have been created for Starfield? What religion would you follow in the game if you have the choice? Let us know in the comments what you think of these beliefs.
