Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves have the Midas touch. The director-actor duo has been instrumental in creating one of the biggest action franchises in Hollywood with the John Wick films. Keanu Reeves who plays the titular character first cemented his place as a true blue action star with Speed and The Matrix saga and took this image forward to make it bigger and better with John Wick. Chad Stahelski proved that he has the skill set to compete with other big action franchise directors with his penchant for pure unadulterated action.
The 4th and latest installment in the film series, John Wick 4 was released in March 2023 and has had a thunderous reception at the box office along with gaining high critical acclaim as well. With Reeves and Stahelski ruling the roost, the possibility of more John Wick films will be the best gift that they could give their fans. But this according to Stahelski, may remain a pipe dream.
Chad Stahelski Dashes Fans’ Hopes For John Wick 5
Chad Stahelski is basking in the glory of his latest film John Wick 4, which is the 4th installment in the highly popular John Wick franchise. With a larger-than-life Keanu Reeves back to reprise his iconic role, fans of the movie series are reveling in its stupendous success. But their excitement on seeing the series continue could be shortlived as Stahelski isn’t keen on taking the franchise forward to a 5th film at the moment. Speaking to Screen Rant, the director detailed the initial discussion with Lionsgate Studio that involved filming Parts 4 and 5 together and expressed his concerns saying that the ambitious idea was very daunting to him.
Despite his doubts about pulling off the mammoth task, Stahelski added that he was extremely grateful for the studio’s faith in his ability as a filmmaker. The director was quoted saying,
“But, it’s also incredibly flattering when… in an industry where everyone’s trying to get something made, and you’re trying to get your wacky ideas made, and somebody to listen, and [get] given a shot, to have people come to you and go, ‘Please make more of what you do.’ I can’t thank Lionsgate enough for just even presenting that opportunity.”
In the end, the filmmaker did not dismiss the idea of creating John Wick 5 completely but confessed that he will need a break to collect his creative thoughts before attempting to write the narrative.
John Wick Will Be Seen In These Projects In The Future
Despite John Wick director Chad Stahelski stating that he had no immediate plans to take the franchise forward with a 5th installment, there is still hope for Keanu Reeves’ character in other projects. According to information coming in, the world of John Wick will expand onto the streaming space in a prequel web series titled The Continental which is due for a 2024 release. The title of the series refers to the famous chain of hotels that feature prominently in the John Wick films.
In addition, the gun-slinging assassin will also be seen playing a small part in the movie Ballerina which is a spin-off set in the John Wick Universe. The film stars Ana De Armas and is set to revolve around Rooney, the ballerina assassin in John Wick 3 who was out to avenge her family’s killers. Ballerina is slated for a 2024 release.
