It would be hard for Wolverine fans to imagine someone else playing X-Man other than Hugh Jackman. However, Sandra Bullock thought Daniel Radcliffe would be perfect to be the next Logan. Followed by his last appearance in the 2017 film, Logan the X-Men star declared that he was done with the character before announcing his comeback in September 2022. While fans were devastated at the thought of not seeing their favorite X-Men back on screen, The Lost City star had some other plans.
Bullock, who starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe in the 2022 film The Lost City, wanted the Harry Potter star to be the next Wolverine. However, Radcliffe missed the chance as Jackman is all set to reprise his X-Men role in the upcoming Deadpool 3.
Sandra Bullock Wanted Daniel Radcliffe to Portray Wolverine
After starring in the 2017 film, Hugh Jackman announced that he would not continue portraying Wolverine as Logan would put the character to rest. While fans did not enjoy the news, many were still curious to see who would be the next Wolverine, leading to multiple fan-casting.
One of the potential actors who became fans’ choice was the Horns star, Daniel Radcliffe. While promoting their 2022 film, The Lost City, Sandra Bullock, and Radcliffe discussed these fan castings. As Radcliffe explained that everything is just speculation and nothing has been confirmed yet, Bullock took the stage and said, “Wolverine people, can you please just f*cking cast him?”
While the Imperium star seemed flustered and asked her to stop, Sandra Bullock continued saying, “Just do it. Stop tiptoeing around and having people ask at press junkets. Just cast the man.”
However, Daniel Radcliffe confirmed that he had not received such news from the studio. And sadly he won’t be getting one for some time. Hugh Jackman is all set to come back as the mutant in the upcoming Marvel film Deadpool 3, alongside Ryan Reynolds.
Daniel Radcliffe’s Theory About Him Being Fan-Cast As Wolverine
After the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness brought Patrick Stewart back as Professor X, fans started hoping that more X-Men would also join the MCU soon. And one of the members of the superhero team they were looking forward to was Wolverine. With Hugh Jackman leaving the role, fans were curious about which actor would take up the mantle next.
Along with stars like Tom Hardy, Jared Keeso, and Danny DeVito, Daniel Radcliffe was also among the fans’ choices to be the next Wolverine. However, every time he was asked about it, he denied the claims saying that he had not been approached by the studio for any potential Marvel role.
And the Guns Akimbo star even had a theory for why Marvel fans wanted him to portray the anti-hero. According to Radcliffe, people only wanted him to be the next Wolverine because of his height.
“I think it’s because Wolverine, in the comics, is fairly short. So, I think it’s people going, ‘Who’s a short actor? Him! He can maybe play him.’ I mean, anything that implies the fleetingest similarity to Hugh Jackman is incredibly flattering, so I’m happy with that.”
As for now, Hugh Jackman will be the one joining the MCU as Wolverine with Deadpool 3. However, it is still not confirmed for how long he will be playing the character in the MCU.
Deadpool 3 is set to release on 8 November 2024.
