As anyone with a PlayStation account will tell you, the PlayStation Plus offerings can be a real mixed bag from month to month. Whilst the inclusion of the ‘Extra’ and ‘Premium’ tiers bring with it many more games for a higher price tag, it’s the ‘Essential’ tier that regularly brings ire with fans around the world.
Brought in as a direct competitor to Xbox’s Games with Gold, it has had it’s fantastic months in the past, and some less than great ones far too often. However that could change this month, now PlayStation has announced what’s coming in June with Jurassic World Evolution 2, NBA 2K23 and Trek to Yomi being announced for the month.
Jurassic World Evolution 2
“Jurassic World Evolution 2 is the much-anticipated sequel to Frontier’s highly successful Jurassic World Evolution, building upon the groundbreaking and immersive 2018 management simulation. It introduces a compelling, new narrative campaign, incredible new features, and awe-inspiring new dinosaurs brought to life with captivating authenticity. Together with expanded construction and more customisation options, the result is an even bigger, better and authentic Jurassic World game.”
The sequel to the well-received park-building simulator, Jurassic World Evolution 2 takes everything that the first game brought to the table, and pushes it to eleven. With far more dinosaurs, buildings, aesthetics for the world and options to build, the game genuinely feels like a huge improvement upon its predecessor, which is no small feat. For anyone that wants a somewhat relaxing time with a building sim, interspersed with the odd dinosaur breaking out of a pen, this is the best of the bunch being added to the PlayStation Plus library for the month.

NBA 2K23
“NBA 2K is the ultimate experience for basketball stars in the making, sending you on an immersive journey and bringing your NBA dreams to life.”
Generally well-received upon release, NBA 2K23 is considered by many to be one of, if not the most faithful recreation of the sport so far. As much filled with multiple different modes to play, with different famous faces present and past involved, it also drew ire from fans and critics alike due to the litany of micro-transactions.

Trek to Yomi
Well-paced, tight and constantly engaging and fun, Trek to Yomi is a love-letter to samurai cinema of old, and the short campaign and consistent gameplay means that on a Switch especially, it’s a perfect game to pick up and play for ten minutes, if that’s all you can spare. It may not be the longest, the biggest or the best offering this month, but it is the most stylish, and you will not regret giving this a go if you like the idea of an Akira Kurosawa inspired samurai game.

So there we have it, that’s the free games we’ll be playing during June. It won’t be much longer until we see what’s being added to the ‘Extra’ and ‘Premium’ tiers in a couple of weeks, but for now, what do you make of the latest PlayStation Plus offerings?
