The PlayStation 5 is officially getting another Xbox exclusive title before the end of this month. The game in question is Somerville, an indie style adventure FPS game made and published by Jumpship. Somerville is set to land on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on August 31, 2023. It was originally released to Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Microsoft Windows on November 15, 2022. Now, less than a year later, Sony is getting the platform game to share with an even larger audience of PlayStation users.
Somerville was met with mixed to average reviews by several different video game critics upon release. IGN gave the title a 7 out of 10, Game Informer said it was an 8 out of 10, and VG247 loved the title giving it five stars. Overall, the game was thoroughly enjoyed by critics and gamers alike, even if it did not come close to GotY level status. Somerville certainly has its fans, and the PlayStation 5 will benefit from the game’s presence on the PlayStation Store.

Somerville is not the only Xbox exclusive game that is coming to the PlayStation 5. It was recently announced that survival horror title, Scorn, developed by Serbian studio, Ebb Software, is set to release on the console in October. The PlayStation 5 also caught the release of High on Life, a Squanch Games title, by Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland. Although High on Life was never officially announced, it showed up on the PS Store at the end of July to the joy of many PlayStation 5 gamers.
The Xbox exclusive titles coming to PlayStation 5 have been a major hit with fans. It appears many more developers are halting complete exclusivity deals and pushing for timed releases. Even the PlayStation exclusive title, Stray, has been announced for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S by the end of this month. Gamers hope more of these kinds of deals continue, so that the so called “console wars” can finally be put to an end.
