Arnold Schwarzenegger has in recent years become a vocal supporter of physical and mental health, which supersedes even his undying love for bodybuilding. The issue especially takes precedence in his mind because of the correlation between drug use in the sport that he had always considered his first love. As such, it was only time before Schwarzenegger stood up to speak against the exploitation of steroids and educate the masses on the adverse effects of the drug.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Speaks Up Against Steroid Use
In recent years, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s advocacy on issues that are concerned with socio-political phenomena around the globe has become somewhat constant, frequent, and relevant. In his monologues shared via social media, the multi-hyphenated personality has attempted to influence millions with bolstering speeches about the importance of physical and mental well-being and the necessity of taking precautionary measures to regulate the use of steroids that has caused much pain in the lives of young bodybuilders.
“Bodybuilding always, always was considered a safe sport. But now, it’s not. Now people are dying. They’re dying because of overdoses of drugs, and they don’t know what they’re doing…
We are at a time now, where we always look for the easy way to make money, the fast way to get rich, the easy way to be an influencer. Any time you abuse the body, you’re going to regret it later on. I want young people to know that I have seen people getting kidney transplants, and suffering tremendously from it.”
The need for advocacy comes at a time when an increasing number of lives are being put at risk in order to achieve faster and better results – an observation that the Austrian Oak makes incessantly clear in his speech. Schwarzenegger has also advised young bodybuilders to seek proper medical and clinical advice from professionals and licensed experts rather than using unsupervised and unauthorized drugs that could potentially damage one’s body permanently in the long term.
Hollywood Gets Embroiled in the Steroid Controversy
The haven of bodybuilding in the US may only be limited to Venice Beach, California, but Hollywood’s reach extends far beyond the hills and deserts that surround Sunset Boulevard. With the industry of film stars getting increasingly ambitious with time and as such, more demanding, the need to deliver a superior performance also exceeds each time someone manages to barely impress on the silver screen. And one of the faces that has never disappointed the audience is that of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
The former WWE legend’s acting career has stumped critics and audiences with his ability to draw in crowds like none other. But with exposure also comes scrutiny and in recent years, infamous podcast host and WWE enthusiast Joe Rogan has repeatedly called out the actor on suspicions of using steroids to look ripped even at 51. However, the controversy is not only limited to the Red Notice actor as a particularly unrecognizable video of Jake Gyllenhaal has been circulating the internet after his appearance at UFC 285 to film a sequence for his upcoming Hollywood project, Road House.
