Cillian Murphy is by far one of the biggest successes in Hollywood. Renowned for his arguably handsome features and overwhelmingly incredible acting, the 47-year-old actor became the industry’s heartthrob in no time after his Tommy Shelby portrayal in Peaky Blinders. Although the extraordinary storyline was what made the TV show a masterpiece, many even believe the series became a superhit thanks to Murphy.
But this handsomely rugged boyish look of the actor ended up pushing him into a pit of trolling after an old picture of Murphy surfaced online, in which, in comparison to his on-screen character, his appearance seems a bit old-like, which people have been branding as ‘ugly’.
Cillian Murphy Got Trolled Over His Appearance
This dates back to 2018 when Cillian Murphy recently became a hotshot in Hollywood for roleplaying Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders. At that time, an old photo of the actor on the red carpet resurfaced on Twitter in which the Golden Globe nominee is looking visibly elderly flaunting longer hair as compared to his on-screen character.
Comparing Murphy’s character with his old image, a Twitter user wrote,
“This actual just proves how different perspective n a hair cut can make u look.”
Even though the tweet got deleted, some fans have been siding up with it, saying they fancy Tommy Shelby but not Cillian Murphy as the comparison between both is ‘inevitable’. But the Peaky Blinder actor has a completely different take on the topic. Talking about his haircut, he said,
“People like the undercut thing. It’s crazy that people like it, it’s not grown on me in four years now. I normally keep my hair long. People go to the barber and ask for a ‘peaky cut’. But do the people in turtlenecks in Hackney with this haircut realize it was styled this way to prevent lice? Tell ‘em they have got the lice cut, see what they say then.“
While the 47-year-old actor didn’t quite react to the trolls, his other fans have been taking up his side calling out all those who had been poking fun at him.
Cillian Murphy’s Fans Destroy The Trolls
After the troll tweet went viral, Cillian Murphy’s die-hard fans backlash at everyone supporting the original tweet. One Twitter user and Murphy fan Jenny Molloy said,
“I think it’s shameful because a lot of girls would call guys out for doing the exact same thing – men would be called ‘disgusting’ or ‘pigs’. But when we make fun of men for their appearance – for example, the Cillian Murphy photos – it’s supposed to be funny? No, it’s not funny at all – it’s just mean. It’s a two-way street; it’s horrible to mock both men’s AND women’s appearances. If the situation was flipped, there would be outrage. I would be outraged if the original ‘call out’ was a picture of a female celebrity, just as I am equally outraged at the mocking of Cillian Murphy.”
Tommy Shelby is the grim head of the Birmingham crime family in Peaky Blinders, which was perfectly portrayed by Cillian Murphy. With his hands-down spectacular performance, fans claim no other actor could’ve played the character better than him.
