DC’s next venture is Blue Beetle and it is the penultimate project to be brought to realization before James Gunn and Peter Saffran start their vision for the franchise. The DC Universe has been in a slump for the past couple of years, as not a single successful movie or TV show has been released by the franchise. Fans are extremely disappointed and many have even dropped hopes of seeing their beloved franchise rise from the rubble.

But some are yet to lose hope as they claim that Blue Beetle will be able to redeem most of the lost hope, as the movie promises to have fun while inculcating interesting fight scenes. Even though the movie trailer has been controversial, the character will have its first big-screen entry. That is why many are having high hopes and are expecting a top-class job from the directors and creators of the pre-DCU project.

Pre-DCU Project Blue Beetle Becomes a Topic of Controversy

Blue Beetle tells the story of a Mexican teenager gaining power from an alien beetle after coming in contact with it as it gives him superpowers like advanced armor and enhanced reflexes. The beetle is not like any other and works as a symbiote, protecting itself by giving the host godly powers. The movie project started in late 2018 but has been delayed due to many reasons, mainly because of the Covid outbreak and the global pandemic. It has finally reached its final stage, the post-production stage, and is getting ready for its premiere in theatres worldwide on August 2023.

The trailer for the movie has been released quite some time ago and since then it has been a widely spoken topic of controversy. Many fans, critics, and YouTubers have spoken about it across various platforms as there is a line in the trailer that mocks Batman by calling him a fascist. The line goes, “Batman’s a Fascist”. Many individuals have spoken against this and have targeted the director, Angel Manuel Soto, for such a bizarre scene. Although Soto has pleaded with fans to give the movie a chance, many are very enraged by this.

“At the end, the Batman is fascist. This is pandering to these stupid f***ing 20 year-old free profile picture she/them don’t know what your f***ing gender is, don’t buy comics, don’t have money to go to movies. That’s who that f***ing s**t is pandering to. ‘Batman is a fascist.’ F*** off with that. That’s so stupid”

Ryan Kinel, a famous YouTuber openly spoke about this line in the trailer, and he was not very happy about it. Although he used some strong language, his points were legit and many will agree with his point of view. Calling someone a fascist is one thing but giving names to Batman will have severe consequences as the fans are not so lenient nowadays, especially after DC has been underperforming.

DC’s upcoming movie Blue Beetle has a scene where Batman was called a fascist. It is not a term that is used nowadays, but the character who plays the role of Uncle Rudy, uncle to the main protagonist, college graduate Jaime Reyes, did so. After the beetle and Reyes bonded, the symbiote gave his powers, godly powers, and the suit reminded him of that of Batman’s cape, as he termed it “Batman’s gear”. Uncle Rudy did not take the matter positively as he claimed Batman to be a fascist, which sparked extreme controversy on social media.

Blue Beetle will hit the theatres on 18 August 2023.
