The Flash, featuring Ezra Miller in the lead role, has turned out to be one of the biggest box-office failures of DC Extended Universe. There were great expectations from the film, owing to its huge production house, excellent director, prominent actors, and more. However, the film failed to perform at the box office due to various reasons. The directors of Batgirl shared their views on The Flash.
Director duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah lamented over their film never getting a chance to be made and shown to the audiences.
Batgirl Directors saddened over rejection from Warner Bros.
In a conversation with Insider, the filmmaker Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah shared their view on The Flash, released in 2023. They also shared their desire to be part of the DCEU world and get a chance to show their film to the world.
The director El Arbi shared with Insider,
“We watched it and we were sad. We love director Andy Muschietti and his sister Barbara, who produced the movie. But when we watched it, we felt we could have been part of the whole thing. We didn’t get the chance to show Batgirl to the world and let the audience judge for themselves. Because the audience really is our ultimate boss and should be the deciders of if something is good or bad, or if something should be seen or not.”
Batgirl was in the making between 2021 and 2022.
Batgirl directors claim it was the stark opposite of The Flash
In the conversation, the directors shared that their film was a different kind of DC film and was in contrast to The Flash. El Arbi said,
“Our movie was very different than The Flash. That has a big fantasy component, ours was more grounded. More like Tim Burton’s Gotham City.”
Batgirl would have also seen the return of Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne, which was also included in The Flash.
Will there be a Batgirl movie?
The directors have high hopes of making their beloved project very soon. Adil El Arbi said,
“Our love for DC, Batman, Batgirl, Gotham City, it’s so big that, as fans, we could never say no to another project. If we got another chance to be part of it, we’d do it. We didn’t get our day in court. We still want to make our case.”
In 2022, Warner Bros. Discovery announced that the film was terminated after the shoot was done, and was in the post-production phase.
Batgirl would have starred Leslie Grace as the protagonist, as she embarks on the quest to prove that she is a hero as she brings down the villainous Firefly, played by famous actor Brendan Fraser.
