A new Star Wars film with Damon Lindelof attached as the writer has been rumored to be in the works. The movie supposedly takes place during the New Jedi Order when Rey tries to train a new crop of Jedi. Daisy Ridley’s Rey won’t be the only familiar face in the upcoming film.

Oscar Isaac and John Boyega, who played Poe Dameron and Finn, respectively, may also return, according to insiders.

In a recent episode, The Hot Mic podcast host John Rocha discussed the prospect of John Boyega’s return to the Star Wars universe. Rocha suggests that, given Ridley’s confirmed participation, there is credence to the speculation that Boyega will return in the next Star Wars film.

“Well I could say the Boyega thing… I think is now in play with Disney with Daisy Ridley coming back and maybe your [Jeff Sneider’s] source saying that he wasn’t initially attached may have been connected to the older script. Now this may be a possibility he may pop up. He [John Boyega] may not be the only one. I mean because from what I understand this deal came together for Daisy Ridley kind of in the last minute.”

Rocha added that Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron might make a cameo. It would be strange, he said, to bring back only one of the main characters from the original trilogy, but Poe Dameron could play a significant role in the new generation of Jedi that Rey is trying to train.

“This was not something they’ve been talking on for six months. This apparently was something that was finally locked down a few weeks before Star Wars celebration. So that lets you know… that there’s still kind of figuring it out here a little bit and who’s going to be where. So, I wonder if maybe bringing back Boyega and Poe Dameron [Oscar Isaac] to be a part of this. [It] would seem odd only bring back one.”

Lucasfilm or Disney has confirmed nothing, so consider these to be rumors for the time being. The prospect of Osaac Isaac, Boyega, and Ridley reuniting on the big screen is exciting.

Damon Lindelof’s Creative Differences With Disney

Rey is said to be the protagonist, and the story will center around her efforts to train a new generation of Jedi after the Empire has fallen. Damon Lindelof has written on HBO for several popular shows, including Lost and Watchmen.

The director was rumored to be working on the next Star Wars film script before he was fired. Some of his original movie ideas have since been revealed, though.

Rey would have been much older and would have trained two new Jedi, one male, and one female, in Lindelof’s script, which was said to have taken place 60 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. It’s unclear whether these specifics will be included in the film’s final cut, but it’s an intriguing idea nonetheless.

There have been some significant shifts in the Star Wars canon recently. After The Rise of Skywalker, the fate of the Skywalker Saga franchise is up in the air. There is no confirmed release date for the ninth Star Wars film, but speculation has it coming out in December 2025.

Daisy Ridley’s recent announcement that she will reprise her role as Rey indicates that Lucasfilm and Disney remain committed to the Star Wars franchise and are eager to develop new narratives within the expanded universe.
