Looks like Oscar Isaac has joined a select group of actors, beating players such as Chris Evans and Idris Elba in the records of superhero film history. The actor is seen on screens once again in a new voiceover role as Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099 in Sony Pictures’ most recent film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which debuted in theatres on June 2.
In a recent interview with GQ, Isaac showed his appreciation for playing the new role of Spider-Man 2099 since the character seemed “pretty amazing” and has “unique qualities” which attracted the actor to take up the new role. Even though O’Hara is a far cry away from Isaac’s more charming characters, the role helped Isaac make a mark in the history books of the MCU.
Oscar Isaac makes history by playing three separate Marvel characters
Previously starring in the 2016 film X-Men: Apocalypse and the 2022 Disney+ series Moon Knight, Oscar Isaac now becomes the first actor in history to portray three different Marvel characters in significant roles. He debuted as Spider-Man 2099 in the 2018 film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but only made an appearance in the post-credits scene. Now, in the recently released film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Isaac reprises the role of Spider-Man 2099, under the name Miguel O’Hara, a no-nonsense grump who needs to keep Miles Morales in line.
In the MCU and other franchises, he is also one of nine actors to portray at least two different Marvel characters. The others include – Chris Evans (Human Torch & Captain America), Josh Brolin: (Cable & Thanos), Michael B Jordan (Human Torch & Killmonger), Hailee Steinfeld (Gwen Stacy & Kate Bishop), Ryan Reynolds (Hannibal King & Deadpool), Gemma Chan (Minn-Erva & Sersi), Jon Favreau (Foggy Nelson & Happy Hogan) and Evan Peters (Quicksilver & Ralph Bohner)
Will Oscar Isaac return to MCU?
Isaac has been extremely appreciative of his experience in the MCU as well as his opportunity to voice an intriguing new character in Sony’s Spider-Verse, despite the fact that his time in X-Men: Apocalypse didn’t leave him with a good impression.
Now, fans are left to wonder if Oscar Isaac is planning on making a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Although there have been rumors that Moon Knight will return for a second season, nothing has been officially announced by Marvel, and the tale itself ended with Khonshu honoring his agreement to part ways with Marc Spector for the time being.
Regarding Sony’s animated Spider-Man films, it would be astonishing if Isaac didn’t return as Spider-Man 2099 in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse in 2024, especially in light of the significant cliffhanger that served as the film’s conclusion.
Even while there aren’t any concrete hints as to where Oscar Isaac will appear next, it’s safe to predict that the next few years should see a lot of him in one Marvel role or another.
