After Naruto, Dragon Ball Pays Homage to Eiichiro Oda as Life Comes Full Circle for Legendary Mangaka

Manga and anime have grown incredibly popular over the decades and have gained global recognition as art forms. Leading the charge are One Piece, Naruto, and Dragon Ball, all of whom are long-running series that continue today in the form of either sequel series or the original still going strong.

Of course, these stories are set in different universes with the mangaka, or manga author, being different for each one of them. Nevertheless, that hasn’t prevented them from paying homage to each other in their respective series. Lately, the internet has been abuzz because Dragon Ball Super paid homage to One Piece by Mangaka Eiichiro Oda.

How did Dragon Ball Super pay homage to One Piece?

Dragon Ball Super is all about earth-shattering battles – sometimes literally – while One Piece is about pirates sailing the open seas and fighting. So how exactly did Dragon Ball Super pay homage to One Piece? Well, in its latest chapter, protagonist Goku’s best friend Krillin was seen wearing a shirt with the word ‘One’ followed by the peace symbol. This was a clever nod to One Piece and the world of Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates. A nice little Easter egg for sure, this reference had fans hyped with all the positive vibes and the clear respect the mangaka share for each other and their respective work.

When did Naruto pay homage to One Piece?

The original Naruto manga ended its run back in 2014 with its 700th chapter, and it was towards the end of that very chapter that it paid a subtle homage to One Piece. Naruto, the titular character of the series Naruto, used to vandalize the Hokage Rock to gain attention from his home village which ostracized him.

In its final chapter, the 700th one, Naruto’s son Boruto (who now has his own sequel manga), paints the Hokage Rock to gain attention from his often busy father. This is a nice, wholesome way to end the series but if fans were to look closely at the vandalized Hokage Rock, they’ll notice the symbol of the Straw Hat Pirates from One Piece. Furthermore, this homage to One Piece comes on Naruto’s own face, which is a nice touch.
