Jared Leto’s eclectic filmography is an indication of the star’s prodigious talent as a performer. Never one to step down from a challenging role, Leto has regaled audiences with his maverick and charismatic screen presence that has earned him accolades and praise from critics and audiences worldwide. The Oscar winner has since moved on to become one of the top Hollywood stars with many commercially successful films under his belt.
While acting and performing may seem like second nature to Leto, the Suicide Squad actor had trouble letting his emotions take over on and off the screen. Leto in a candid interview, spoke about a film in his career that forced him to become vulnerable due to a personal tragedy that he faced.
Requiem For A Dream Brought Jared Leto To Tears
Darren Aronofsky’s psychological drama Requiem for a Dream saw Jared Leto starring in a narrative about four characters affected by drug addiction and how it alters their physical and emotional states. Though the film was appreciated by critics, it failed to make the numbers at the box office. Jared Leto though, credited the film and his character for opening up his mind to being vulnerable. The actor who confessed that he was never one to shed a tear, was an emotional wreck during filming, which was also brought on by a personal tragedy involving a close friend.
“A wild thing about that film is I remember I had a scene, and I was supposed to be very emotional, and then literally when they shot my close-up, I got a call. One of my best friends had just been shot in the head and the emotion that came at that moment… when I recognised what a brutal loss this was,”
Despite being proud of his ability to not shed a tear in almost 17 years, Leto admitted that being open and organic with expressing emotions and acknowledging fear enabled him to be a far better actor.
