Recalling the time when fan-made petitions started chaos for Marvel, who wanted Brie Larson to step down as Carol Danvers, prior to Captain Marvel 2 productions. Discussing the event and the validation of the petition, Joe Rogan touched upon the topic and gave his opinion on the same during an episode of his podcast.
Titled, “Demand Captain Marvel is Played By a Woman of Color, Not Brie Larson!”, the petition originated after the fandom took offense at certain aspects of the storyline. However, Joe Rogan purposefully trolled the cancel culture for their bizarre demands. Hosting the podcast discussion with Andrew Doyle, Rogan slammed the petition against Larson.
Fan Petition Demanded Gay Woman Of Color As Captain Marvel
Way ahead of the shooting and production of Captain Marvel 2, MCU fans started a petition to replace Brie Larson with a gay woman of color to play Carol Danvers. Starting an online petition with the title, “Demand Captain Marvel is Played By a Woman of Color, Not Brie Larson” fans began creating a difficult situation for Marvel.
While Marvel Studios had previous experience of receiving petitions after offending fans, the Captain Marvel petition was a little different, as fans clearly took offense to Larson’s casting as the comic character. Looking for 30,000 signatures to remove the actress from the role prior to production, the cancel culture received 28,000 signatures for their demand.
Making a clear mission statement, fans even mentioned which actress they would like to replace Larson. “Let Monica, the original female & BLACK Captain Marvel instead of white-washing characters for the benefit of the straight, white men running Disney.” But more than anything what they wished for was “Brie Larson to step down from her role to prove she is an ally of social justice and ensure a gay woman of color plays the role.”

Joe Rogan Slammed Cancel Culture For Their Bizarre Demands
When the petition started gaining social media attention and taking shape, Joe Rogan touched upon the topic during one of his podcast episodes with Andrew Doyle. Purposefully trolling the cancel culture and their petition seeking bizarre demands, Rogan even discussed the fans’ “need for compliance”.
Calling the petition “ridiculous”, Joe Rogan spoke with Andrew Doyle who mentioned, “Isn’t Brie Larson super woke, like she’s got a reputation for being incredibly woke.” To which Rogan sarcastically replied, “Not woke enough if you’re white”. Subtly pointing out how the cancel culture is making bizarre demands based on skin color, Rogan humbled the petition creators.
While ridiculing fans for their demands, Doyle asked “Does it matter which Black gay woman? Does it have to be a black gay woman who can act?” Rogan thus brutally trolled the cancel culture all over again by stating, “That has to be the blackest gayest woman you can find, because if you have a half black and kind of gay, like pansexual woman, then that’s part of the patriarchy”.
Finally ending the conversation by stating how the demands never end, Joe Rogan clearly spoke against the petition and openly supported Brie Larson’s casting as Captain Marvel.
MCU’s The Marvels will hit theatres on 10 November 2023.
