Is Marvel Oversaturating Box Office Real?

Marvel will kick off its phase 5 with Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania but the future of MCU is now looking cloudy as Marvel fatigue kicks in for fans. Movies like Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Black Widow, and even Thor: Love and Thunder didn’t generate as much profit as previous Marvel releases. This can be seen as a major sign of the declining Marvel craze.

The profit generated by superhero movies continued to remain at its peak during the past years. It didn’t seem like a bad idea to increase the output of these movies to generate even more revenue. Marvel did pretty great work in overtaking DC while producing some of the best superhero movies. It looked like Marvel will never follow the downward trajectory. But fans can already be seen getting fed up with Marvel releasing so many superhero movies and series. With the bunch of projects lined up for release, the news that Marvel oversaturates the box office sounds even more real.

Kevin Feige Feels Fans Will Never Get Bored of Marvel Movies

While Kevin Feige kicked off MCU phase 5 with utter enthusiasm during the comic-can and revealed plans for the upcoming Avengers movies. If you look at the timeline of MCU phase 5, then it is pretty evident that the list of upcoming Marvel movies and series will result in Marvel oversaturating the cinema. Yet Kevin Feige denies the true saturation of Marvel movies as he remains confident of 80 years of Marvel comics legacy.

“I’ve been at Marvel Studios for over 22 years, and most of us here at Marvel Studios have been around a decade or longer together. From probably my second year at Marvel, people were asking, ‘Well, how long is this going to last? Is this fad of comic book movies going to end?’ I didn’t really understand the question. Because to me, it was akin to saying after ‘Gone With the Wind,’ ‘Well, how many more movies can be made off of novels? Do you think the audience will sour on movies being adapted from books?’”

The Marvel boss continued,

“There’s 80 years of the most interesting, emotional, groundbreaking stories that have been told in the Marvel comics, and it is our great privilege to be able to take what we have and adapt them. Another way to do that is by adapting them into different genres, and what types of movies we want to make. I found that if we tell the story right, and we adapt them in a way that the audience still — knock on wood so far — is following us along 22-plus years later… we can [make] any type of movie that shares two things: the Marvel Studios logo above the title and a seed of an idea from our publishing history.”
