Colin Farrell, the accomplished Irish thespian, has made a lasting impression in the film industry through his multifaceted portrayals. Renowned for his work in movies such as In Bruges, The Lobster, and Fantastic Beasts, Farell continues to engage viewers with his riveting and chameleon-like performances.
Farrell hasn’t limited himself to film; he’s also ventured into television series. While the release date for The Penguin show is still pending, he shared his thoughts on The North Water, describing the thriller series as an experience that left him considerably stressed.
Colin Farrell Was Constantly In Fear During The Shoot
Colin Farrell expressed his feelings during the filming of The North Water, conveying that he consistently sensed the imminent threat of danger. He believed that a single error could result in someone plunging into the frigid Arctic waters, facing the rapid onset of hypothermia, or succumbing to the heavy, waterlogged costumes worn during production.
“I did feel that death was just around the corner at any given time,” he told the Sunday World. “That we were just one mistake away from someone falling into the Arctic sea and either very quickly getting hypothermia or sinking under the weight of the waterlogged costume.”
The series, which premiered in 2021, revolves around a 19th-century Arctic whaling expedition. Farrell assumes the role of Harry Drax, a harpooner among the crew. While the show features numerous harrowing incidents, it was the actual filming in chilly locales like Hungary and Norway that left Farrell feeling chilled to the bone. He described in his interview,
“There were also polar bears around, who were beautiful and elegant and majestic but also apex predators. It was a very profound experience for us all to share.”
Indeed, it’s quite remarkable, albeit occasionally taxing. The North Water, crafted by Andrew Haigh, stands as one of the standout drama series of the current decade, particularly appealing to enthusiasts of period pieces. Undoubtedly, Farrell’s work on The Batman movie spin-off The Penguin likely felt comparatively more manageable.
The Penguin Update Hypes Up Fans
Scheduled for a 2024 release, The Penguin series will see Colin Farrell returning to his much-acclaimed role. It has garnered a TV-MA rating, equivalent to an R-rating, which hasn’t surprised many, as speculations regarding this have circulated since last year. This revelation has sparked a buzz online, with some expressing excitement for the series, while others have stated their intention to skip it.
In 2022, Farrell deliberated on the merits of securing an R rating for the forthcoming Batman spinoff. The 47-year-old actor delved into his character in The Batman, emphasizing that an R-rated version would provide an opportunity to delve into the darker aspects of the narrative.
The North Water can be streamed on Prime Video.
