The international spy genre is somewhat of a classic section of the film industry that has existed since the old days. It was made this popular thanks to the James Bond films from the past, which make headlines and break blockbuster records even more than half a century later, and there are no signs of these films stopping to amaze the audience anytime soon.

Considered to be one of the most prestigious and career-defining roles for any actor in the film industry, the character of James Bond from the iconic 007 franchise has only been played by those that have been able to prove themselves as worthy of continuing the legacy of their predecessors. Therefore, when choosing the new face to represent the franchise, the selection process is stringent to put it very lightly, which means the stars are hand-picked for the role. And so far, there have been a few stars that were in the running, but recently, a new face has joined the ranks.

A little while back, the names of ex-DCEU star Henry Cavill and upcoming Kraven The Hunter star Aaron Taylor-Johnson have been the biggest contenders, along with stars like Tom Hardy, who were speculated of inheriting the name of Bond in the upcoming films. But recently, as calculated by an Irish betting company BoyleSports, the chances are high that Oppenheimer lead star Cillian Murphy can take the lead and become the next Agent 007 in the franchise going forward.

The new reports come from the company’s vast pool of data, which also tells about the fact that legendary filmmaker Christopher Nolan is being scouted by Eon Productions to helm the upcoming projects in the series. And with his track record of working with stars that he has worked with in the past, it’s highly likely that the Peaky Blinders star may make his appearance as James Bond in the future as he has already collaborated with the director in 6 of his most successful films, including his latest masterpiece about the father of the atomic bomb.

While for the longest time, people and industry insiders were claiming that Taylor-Johnson was in the lead as he had impressed the casting directors and the producers with his auditions, along with considering Cavill on the basis that he was neck-and-neck with Daniel Craig to bag the role in the past. But now, with the inclusion of Murphy’s name into the mix, the battle to become the next Bond just got a whole lot more interesting than before, and it will be up to the executives to make the right decision.
