Prepare for the comeback of Marvel’s iconic superhero family, the Fantastic Four, as they make their return to the silver screen. With the backing of Marvel Studios, this highly anticipated film promises to do justice to Stan Lee’s original powerhouse lineup, elevating one of the most beloved and legendary superhero teams to new heights. Unfortunately, it won’t have Dwayne Johnson in any capacity.
Embarking on their fourth endeavor, the formidable quartet consisting of Reed Richards, Susan Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm—better known as Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing—are gearing up for their long-awaited debut on the grand cinematic stage. This upcoming film will mark the latest attempt to properly showcase these beloved characters, following the ill-fated 2015 reboot helmed by Josh Trank.
Dwayne Johnson Isn’t Getting The Thing’s Role
Fans who have been anticipating Dwyane Johnson to take on the popular role for years would be disappointed to know the latest development. According to DCEULeaks, Star Wars Andor actor, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, will be playing the role of The Thing in the upcoming film.
In an attempt to revitalize the franchise, the team underwent a reboot in 2015 under the direction of Josh Trank, embracing a darker and more “grounded” approach. The cast, including Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, and Michael B. Jordan, stepped into the roles with great potential. However, the film turned out to be a catastrophic failure at the box office, and critical reception was even more scathing. Many critics pointed out the film’s lackluster tone and evident reshoots, which ultimately hindered the overall narrative.
With the latest casting news of Ebon Moss-Bachrach, things could change for the franchise. He has established himself as a multifaceted actor with an impressive career. Renowned for his captivating performances in film, television, and theater, he effortlessly showcases his versatility. With his range and ability to bring depth to his characters, Moss-Bachrach can prove to be a good addition to the project.
Marvel Fans Wanted Dwyane Johnson In The Franchise
Avid Marvel enthusiasts had their own imaginative concepts regarding how The Rock could seamlessly integrate into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Several fan artists envisioned The Rock portraying the Marvel superhero composed of rocks, none other than Thing from The Fantastic Four.
That said, the vision wasn’t absurd at all, considering Johnson’s version of the Thing would bring along a lot of excitement for the franchise. The Thing is shown as a beefed-up meat-ball shaped person made of rocks, but Johnson could’ve provided a more refined version of the character, thanks to his huge upper body atop a thinner waist and legs.
His portrayal could’ve enhanced the authenticity of the Thing as a human encased in rocks, displaying a powerful physique reminiscent of a weightlifter. Simultaneously, it would’ve introduced an element of uniqueness to the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the character.
