1992’s Basic Instinct was a big opportunity for actress Sharon Stone. Many actresses turned down the role because of excessive n*de scenes, but Stone accepted it as she was a budding actress at the time. The role in the movie earned her several awards and nominations.
Filming the movie was quite hectic for her. Firstly, she didn’t really feel comfortable around her co-star, actor Michael Douglas. Secondly, long working hours took a toll on her physical health. Despite all the issues, her performance in the movie was remarkable, solidifying her place as a talented star in the entertainment industry.
Sharon Stone suffered from mini-seizures on the sets of Basic Instinct
In 2021, actress Sharon Stone appeared for an interview with The New Yorker and talked about her iconic role in Paul Verhoeven’s 1992 movie, Basic Instinct. The actress revealed that she suffered from mini-seizures on the sets,
“I was clearly having some mini seizures when I was doing Basic Instinct. I used to tell people I was having them, and nobody would believe me.”
As per Stone, everyone on the set thought she was addicted to drugs and was suffering from the side effects. However, it was actually a serious issue.
Sharon Stone was hospitalized
The seizures were the early signs of a stroke that Stone suffered from in 2001. In the interview, she revealed that director Paul Verhoeven visited her when she was in the hospital,
“I kept saying, ‘I’m not taking drugs and I don’t know why this happens to me. So when this (stroke) happened, there was a little bit of ‘Ohhh.'”
As of now, Stone is healthy, however, she still suffers from a small condition that prevents her from maintaining conversations. She revealed that she takes medicines to control it.
Basic Instinct‘s release made Sharon Stone anxious
There is a scene in Basic Instinct where Stone is not wearing underwear. The actress was told that a shadow would cover her private parts, however, that didn’t happen and that scene was included in the movie. She got very nervous about it but eventually, she got over it,
“I think more I was just so shocked and I was embarrassed not to be able to process it alone with him than I was so horrified. After a week of considering to stop the release of the movie, I decided it fit the character in the film and it should stay in.”
The actress was uncomfortable around Michael Douglas, however, the tension between them worked very well for their on-screen chemistry.
