The best thing about watching a film is the anticipation and wait the audience has to go through until its release date as it builds up the excitement even more. And with the release of the long-awaited Christopher Nolan directorial Oppenheimer, the crowd of cine-goers that were patiently holding their breaths can take a breath of relief.
With Irish actor and long-time collaborator Cillian Murphy by the director’s side, the film has shocked and mesmerized the audience worldwide. And although every praise that it gets is from a place of the highest regard, there are also a lot of questions about some choices that were taken by the director during the shoot, specifically, the intimate scene that the lead star shared with Florence Pugh in the film.
Cillian Murphy Justifies The S*x Scene In Oppenheimer
The creation of a major Hollywood film has to take into consideration many implications and the results that it will bring to the reception of the final product. Therefore, while most of the artistic expression of the director has to be laid out in front of the camera to bring their vision into reality, there may be some choices that people may not understand. A fine example can be derived from Christopher Nolan‘s latest film Oppenheimer, where the actors had to perform a love-making scene and people are just trying to wrap their head around it.

In a recent interview with the film’s lead star Cillian Murphy, who plays the role of the titular physicist, the actor was bombarded with questions about the film as well as the experience that everyone had on set, including him. Here, one of the more burning questions that were asked was about the controversial s*x scene which also featured Florence Pugh, and why was it put in the final product. The Peaky Blinders star replied to this, saying that although it may seem unnecessary, there is a reason it was there. He said:
“I think they were vital in this in this movie. I think the relationship that he has with Jean Tatlock is one of the most crucial emotional parts of the film. I think if they’re key to the story then they’re worthwhile. Listen, no one likes doing them, they’re the most awkward possible part of our job. But sometimes you have to get on with it.”
And rightfully so, as even in the books of history, the scientist’s relationship with his lover had a profound impact on his character in the future.
