When we talk about superhero films, the first thing that comes to everyone’s mind is the MCU, one of the biggest cinematic franchises in the world, let alone one filled with our favorite superheroes from Marvel Comics. But then there is Ryan Reynolds, who introduced the film industry to Deadpool, and now, the character has become a staple for millions of comic fans around the world.
The film became an instant hit with the audience after the release of the first trailers, and the subsequent projects have not disappointed the fans ever since. But taking a step back and looking in retrospect, before the release of the hyped and upcoming Deadpool 3, his previous superhero project was subjected to a lot of backlash from the public, but not how you may think.
Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool Came Under Fire From Fans For It To Be Released By The Studios
While he may have made a huge mistake in the past by becoming Hal Jordan in DC’s Green Lantern, a film that’s called one of the worst films of all time, Ryan Reynolds went ahead and did yet another superhero flick, this time, donning the red suit of the witty gun for hire anti-hero in Deadpool from the pages of Marvel Comics. But this too, was a failure for him since 20th Century Fox, the company that made the film, decided to shelve it. But soon, when the test footage of the movie was leaked online, it was only a matter of time before the studios faced the heat from the audience.

After the fans got a look at what the film had in store for them, their fury came down on the studios, which were bashed and ordered by the millions of fans to complete and release this film in theatres. And when the company complied and released the film, it became an instant overnight success after earning almost $782 Million in revenue. Talking about this in a past interview, the Free Guy star opened up about how the numerous hate mails which the film received enabled it to be released at the end. He said:
“Of course, no one had the balls to make it, and the movie sat on a shelf for years, and it wasn’t until the fans saw some leaked test footage that we did and they overwhelmed the studio with hate mail, tweets, and anything else that they can do,”
Just goes to show how in front of the might of the fans and the audience, even giant production companies of the film industry have to fold.
