Tom Cruise’s stunt work is getting better with each new film.
One of the most well-established actors in Hollywood, known for pulling off his own stunts, Cruise has done everything. So, whether it is hanging from a plane to leaping off a cliff, he has done it all with enthusiasm. The 61-year-old actor recently appeared in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and pulled off one of his most perilous stunts to date: riding a motorcycle off a cliff.
The stunt—described as the most life-threatening of his acting career so far—features Cruise riding a motorcycle off a cliff and then parachuting to safety as he falls. However, there is one stunt that even the action god would never consent to perform.
He spoke to Jimmy Kimmel earlier this year about the one stunt he would unquestionably never dare to attempt. The actor also discussed doing Top Gun with Val Kilmer, while promoting Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Which Stunt Tom Cruise Would Never Agree to Do?
Top Gun: Maverick actor, Tom Cruise appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in February and admitted that he watches his own films in theaters. He also talked about the prospect of watching his recently released Mission: Impossible installment through a streaming service as well as his upcoming installment in the series.
The legendary action star, known for his life-threatening stunts and dedication to providing mind-blowing entertainment, has vehemently stated that he will never again perform a stunt after an incredible motorcycle chase scene.
The 61-year-old actor stunned onlookers by deftly driving a specially modified motorcycle along a precarious mountain ridge while playing the beloved character, Ethan Hunt. The scene was being shot for the eagerly awaited Mission Impossible 7, which is set to push the limits of action cinema to a completely new level.
Cruise continued by mentioning his preference for pulling off his own stunts:
“I just try to do everything I can, use every tool that I have, to entertain the audience.”
The Jack Reacher actor went on to say that he had always pushed the limits of safety, adding:
“I have been doing it my whole life…to me it was just normal.”
As Kimmel questioned him:
“Would you fly a plane blindfolded?”
Regarding which, the curious Cruise inquired:
“Am I allowed to look at my instruments, or I just can’t see them at all?”
Kimmel answered:
“Well, I don’t know what your powers are, but I would say no. You can’t see anything.”
The actor laughed and said:
“No, no, dude, I would never.”
Tom Cruise Discussed Pulling Off His ‘Most Dangerous Stunt’ To Date
Tom Cruise was open about pulling off his most risky stunt to date while promoting the highly anticipated seventh installment of Mission Impossible. The actor explained this during an interview with Entertainment Tonight:
“Well, that way we would know whether we are going to continue with the film or not! Let’s know on day one what is going to happen, do we all continue or is it a major rewrite.”
The Outsiders actor added further:
”It was very important as we were prepping the film that the stunt actually was the first thing. Because I don’t want to drop that and shoot other things, and have my mind somewhere else. Everyone was prepped. You don’t want to be waking up in the middle of the night thinking, ‘I still have that left to do.”
He emphasized that you needed to be extremely sharp to pull off a stunt like this:
”Preparing for something like that was years (of experience). I had been riding motorcycles since I was a little kid, raced cars and spent a lot of time with aerobatics, airplanes, helicopters, and parachutes. But to figure out something like that… It is our understanding of story, understanding of camera, how to do something like that, it all kind of came in that moment. I had trained for it, you have to be razor sharp when you do something like that.”
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is already in theaters (released on July 12).
