Nicolas Cage can be termed an actor for all seasons. The Hollywood veteran has covered the gamut of genres with impressive performances in action films, comedies, and dramas. The star once almost played DC’s most celebrated superhero Superman. Cage was slated to take on the iconic role in Tim Burton’s Superman Lives which was touted to be a fresh and more avantgarde take on Superman after Christopher Reeve immortalised him. The film unfortunately did not materialise, but now, after 25 years, if rumors are to be believed, Nicolas Cage may make his Superman debut in an upcoming summer blockbuster.

Will Nicolas Cage Appear As Superman in The Flash?

DC’s The Flash will be the big blockbuster release this summer. It is one of the most awaited films to come out of the DC camp, not just for the importance given to the lightning quick superhero in a standalone film, but also for the various speculations regarding the possible superhero cameos that may feature in it. The rumor mills are working on overdrive with the latest possibility of Oscar winner Nicolas Cage appearing as Superman in the film, 25 years after he was supposed to play the character in Tim Burton’s Superman Lives. Cage too teased audiences with his in-definitive but intriguing comment about his involvement.

Would it matter how much time I appeared as the character? There might still be a chance.”

According to reports about the film, Barry Allen sees multiple different realities while running in the Speed Force and rumor has it that one of these realities will include a version of Superman played by Nicolas Cage. While this still seems like a very far-fetched probability, it remains to be seen if DC turns that into a reality. At the moment, this information is considered to be only a rumor and nothing else.

DC Could Pay Homage To Other Iconic Characters In The Flash

According to Hollywood insider Syl Abdul, Nicolas Cage may not be the only actor who is rumored to feature in a cameo in The Flash. In a possible throwback to the yesteryears, Christopher Reeves’ Superman will allegedly make an appearance as will Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman and Helen Slater as Supergirl. Abdul said that a version of The Flash he’d heard about reportedly contains these cameos in addition to the news that George Clooney will reprise his role as Batman briefly.

These intriguing alleged cameo appearances,  while not yet officially confirmed, ties up with the vision of Warner Brothers who reportedly wanted The Flash to be “a celebration of DC” and is selling the film more like a nostalgic brand as opposed to a continuation of the DCEU. Come June, all will be revealed, including which rumor actually becomes a reality.

The Flash releases worldwide in theaters on June 16th, 2023.
