Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage was recently honored with the Variety Legend and Groundbreaker awards at the Miami Film Festival. The Ghost Rider star who is also an Academy Award, Golden Globe, and SAG winner in the past, has done a wide variety of films in his illustrious career ranging from action to drama to comedy. The actor, while accepting his award, spoke about the film choices he has made, including a possible entry into the superhero cinematic universe.
Will we see Nicolas Cage in the MCU?
It is common knowledge that Nicolas Cage has a Marvel studio connection, having played the role of the Marvel demonic superhero in the film Ghost Rider. But his association has never extended beyond this character, to the world of the MCU. When questioned about the possible reason for this, the Con Air actor said,
“I’ve gotta be nice about Marvel movies because I named myself after a Stan Lee character named Luke Cage. What am I going to do, put Marvel movies down? Stan Lee is my surrealistic father. He named me. I understand what the frustration is. I get it. But I think there’s plenty of room for everybody.
When pressed about the possibility of seeing Ghost Rider in the MCU, the star oozed confidence saying,
“I don’t need to be in the MCU, I’m Nic Cage.”

Nicolas Cage was almost touted to play Superman
Apart from playing a Marvel superhero, Nicolas Cage was almost cast as DC’s most iconic superhero, Superman, in Tim Burton’s Superman Lives. The film which was to hit the screens in the 90s, unfortunately, did not happen. The National Treasure actor stated that he wasn’t fully aware of why the project was shelved, except for the fact that the choice of director was a toss-up between Tim Burton and Finnish director Renny Harlin. Nicolas cage felt that,
“I liked Renny but I thought if I’m going to do this, it’s such a bullseye to hit. I said this has to be Tim Burton. I called Tim and said, ‘Would you do this?” Tim didn’t cast me, I cast Tim, and Tim said yes”
The actor said that he really enjoyed the character they were building which was based on Superman with “samurai black long hair”. This potentially exciting collaboration though remained only on paper, with Tim Burton moving on to direct Batman with Michael Keaton.
These are the genres that Nicolas Cage enjoys the most
At the awards ceremony, Nicolas Cage also spoke about the vast number of film genres he has been part of and listed some of his favorites. Speaking about his preferred genre, the independently spirited family drama, the celebrity says,
“I like movies that take place at home and the struggles we have at home and how we’re trying to either succeed and become better people or succumb to the pressures of the human experience.
The City of Angels star also spoke highly about horror and science fiction films saying that these genres require the highest level of technical excellence and creativity in storytelling.
