An official trailer for the final season of Star Wars; The Clone Wars dropped yesterday morning and comes with the season premiere date as well.
According to the trailer, the show is set to premiere on Disney+ on February 21st. Clone Wars went off the air back in 2013 and canceled so that Disney could move on with their slate of content, including Star Wars: Rebels. Dave Filoni announced back in 2018 that the show would return during San Diego Comic Con. Filoni said that show would pick up on where he had left off on the planning of the next season, back in 2013. Sam Witwer, voice of Maul, said that Filoni would write things into Rebels pointing towards these ideas for the last season. Though things have been changed to match the new canon material.
The trailer also shows how this will push the show directly into the events of Revenge of the Sith, while also affecting the characters on Rebels. The show seems to focus on Anakin, Ahsoka, Maul, and Rex. Anakin as he falls to the dark side and ultimately becomes Darth Vader. Ahsoka as she starts figuring out her life outside the Jedi Order.
Maul is back in command of Mandalore, which is highly mysterious considering Savage Opress and Maul lost in a duel to Darth Sidious. Maul gets used by Sidious to destroy the Nightsisters on Dathomir, and then manages to escape Sidious later on and return to Mandalore. The show seems to explore his return to Mandalore and answer the questions surrounding his role in everything.
Then there is Rex, it seems to be the start of the situation of the downfall of the clones as well. This scenes shown in the trailer have Rex explaining how he has lost faith in the war, and Maul seems to play a role in this. It also seems to pick up on the previous season’s plotline regarding Order 66.
Season 7 of Clone Wars is set to have 12 new episodes as part of this final season as well. This new season will not only help end this story on a high note, but will also start setting up how Mandalorian culture and maybe even how the Dark Saber ends up in The Mandalorian.
